Fantastic hotel, on the main city river. Lovely view from the lobby and the rooms. Top class and friendliest service you can ever find. Great food. All in all, a top 5 star hotel, and great value for money!

Historical Traveller Reviews of Goa Marriott Resort Hotel

Great Hotel

from odowdchr
Won't reiterate what other people have said...it's a good hotel. I stayed there for 4 nights as part of a cricket tour.
Panaji's an under-rated city, much more charismatic than i imagined after previous trips to Goa and consciously avoiding the place (after staying in the awful Margao once i'd wrongly imagined Panaji to be similar..).
The Marriott's as good as you'll get in India, it doesn't feel as special as some of the other's in the Far East (like the incomparable JW Marriott in Phuket), but that's probably because of the slightly unfashionable location within Goa and the elongated shape of the hotel. It just lacks a bit of atmosphere as other people have said.

The swimming pools a bit of a weird shape, but again they're restricted with the site layout. When the wind blows in off the river in the afternoon there's a breeze strong enough to blow your towel away...but it makes for a heck of a tan.

One point to make is that it's not as expensive as i thought, though more expensive than the norm. for Goa.
I think this hotel has to fight hard for the business because it's not often you see Marriott's offered as part of package deals with UK companies. That's good because they know they have to be competitive on price.
Beer and room service were a third of the price as New Delhi Marriott and it's nice to go to a 4/5* hotel and not think you're being totally ripped off for the convenience they offer!

Rooms were excellent and the service was good.
It's also great when a hotel has an on-site bakery to supply the restaurants with fresh breads and cakes all day!

absolutely top banana!!

We stayed here for 3 weeks and wanted a relaxing place to unwind - the reviews on this page made our mind up for the Marriott. We were not disappointed. Luxury at it's best - everything clean (romms done twice a day, the bed was fantastic and could have slept a 3rd person) - one night I slept for 11 hours and staff helpful, friendly and could not do enough for us.Breakfast was excellent - brilliant choice - eggs, bacon, susages, tommies, mush, waffles, pancakes, fruit, juices, lassi and we even tried the chick pea curry one morning!
Hotel food and drinks was expensive (we had 8 G&Ts and Jack daniels and coke - £40 and simply fish, whilst excellent cost about £70 but I did have wine which was about £20 as imported - the Indian wine was not good!) so we ate out most nights. Having said this the total bill for 3 weeks was only £600 and this included room service on about 4 nights.
Edu's and Mum's Kitchen (both good) are walking distance. Others worthy of note are: Delhi Dubar, Venites, Sheer-E-Punjab (in Hotel Aroma), Zen for thai style food, all of which 150 rupees in cab to Panaji.Get cab's outside hotel (Baptist Alfonso is a great source of info) as Marriott cab cost us 300 rupees for one way.
Do try further afield Sea Pebbles in San Paulo for great fish or Frank's in Baga for chateau briand (800 rups return in cab - meal and drink cost us less than this)The Italian Garden is also good in Calangutte - all vegitarian but a nice change from spicy food and good value
Coco Beach is 200 rups in a rickshaw (20 min drive & no sellers) and we found Bobby's a good shack (also visited Utorda beach - empty but sellers were a bit of a pest.
Lacoste shop in Panaji was good value with T shirts costing £25 when about £60 in England
Finally, do NOT book the overnight cruise on the floating Palace - it is a floating wreck and filthy dirty. We refused to stay on board and got our money back via Marriott travel desk - only down side to the whole experience.
Hope this helps those of you lucky enough to be going soon!

Fabulous Resort

Wanted to share this feedbeck with you about this fabulous resort. The best part of this hotel is the service & their staff is the biggest asset. I would like to highly recommend this hotel to a traveller who is new to Goa. We, stayed with the Marriots in the month of March infact we have just ended our wonderful dream holiday. As the name & the brand says that its "The Marriotts Way" which is proved true by this resort. Rooms, food, service, cleanliness, upkeep of the hotel, landscaping, facilities, etc. are highly recommendable. Our kids enjoyed a lot as the people around were very friendly & we really didnt even bothered about our kids during our stay.

Fall in Love with Goa

your trip to Goa is not complete if you have not stayed at the Goa Marriott Resort. This is a 5* hotel with all the modern amenities a five star has to offer. It has a beautiful pool where you can look out to the river that merges with the sea.The pool also has a swim up bar.this resort also has three beautiful restaurants to eat at,being the Waterfront Terrcae & Bar-which is a multicuisine buffet/a la carte restaurant which also is a 24 hour coffee shop.U have the beautifully decorated chinese restaurant called Wan-Hao.Serves Thai, cantonese & schezwan cuisine.this gives u a feel as if u were sitting in a chinese courtyard during sunset, & if ur a fish lover be sure not to miss the Simplyfish which is situated by the poolside & u can order ur fish, crabs, lobsters or jumbo prawns & ask them to cook it for you to your liking.they do you a sumptuous meal.
You also have the state of the art gym which lets you work out & keep trim & fit & a spa & salon which helps you to get rid of your jet lag & gets you rejuvenated with the different types of body massages ,facials etc.with their well trained masseurs.Go enjoy Goa at the Goa Marriott Resort!!! & you will wanna go back again & again.....

excellent. just needs new pool, and bit more atmosphere.

from tolbiny
The hotel is wonderful. As everyone has put previously, nothing is missing......apart from a bit of atmosphere. The bars are fine, but there is disco room that nobody ventures into. It would be much better used as a piano bar, with relaxing seating. The bar in ther lobby overlooking the pool is great for a few beers before heading out though. The staff are just workaholics. Tip well, they deserve it!

Thats not to say the hotel isnt fantastic, because it is truely 1st class. We, like everyone else, were made to feel very welcome, and our room was very high quality. Its worth the extra to get views of the river in sunset.

People have said the pool inst the best. This is true. Whilst its very clean, and the beds are outstanding, the pool itself is long, but very narrow.....too small for a hotel of its size. Added to the fact that the beach is not good, there is room for improvement here.

The location, however, is great. Being close to the centre, and being central to get everywhere made life very easy. Whilst we were there, the Bollywood film festival was on. We managed to bluff our way in (4 of us) by saying that Becky, my girlfriend, was a hollywood superstar, and was the voice of mrs potato-head in toy story 2. It worked! We were treated like royalty, having our pics taken by the press, waving to the crowds outside, and giving interviews...where else could this happen. The pic included is a Bollywood starlet who we 'allowed' to be pictured with Becky. It was a brilliant, and hilarious night. Even down to armed guards guiding us round, keeping us out of harms way. That night was worth the holiday in itself.

We would recommend the hotel, but only for the hotels luxurious offerings, and location. If you fancy a beach holiday, we found much nicer beaches and beautiful green seas in thailand.

The holiday was just 1 big laugh, though. Go and enjoy.

Excellent choice

Second visit to the Marriott & it didn't disappoint on re-acquaintance...Excellent U.S standard hotel with every facility. We had an Executive room & the bed was the best I've ever slept in: Massive & SO comfortable. Staff are very attentive & attend your every need; some even remembered us from last year & were reserving the best beds by the pool for us without even a word from us. I have visited the Taj & Park Hyatt in Goa to compare &, whilst they are very nice, for me, the location is the thing with the Marriott. Yes, it doesn't have the beach front but it is 5 minutes from town so you get some choice on eating out & get to see some real India. A real bonus rather than eating in the hotel all the time. Not that the food there wasn't good; It's excellent, particularly "Simply Fish." However, it is expensive compared to local prices (£15 p/p rather than £3 p/p)plus I like to get out & experience the local cuisine. One last thing: If you do choose the Marriott, walk outside & look for Baptist, the best taxi driver in India, & tell him Alison & Dawn sent you. He has excellent English & is a top man.

Fantastic yet again

from Pbryan10
We have stayed at the Marriot 4 times over the last five years. Every year it's still the same. The staff are unbeleivable. Nothing is too much trouble. Food is fantasic and not as some would say (expensive) I beleive you get what you pay for in this life and if food is more expensive at the Marriott than in a shack....then guess what....it's better, safer and a fabulous enviroment. Forget the beach, there is one at the end of the Hotel (Mirramar Beach) who needs one nice pool, great service and plently of sunshine......perfect

What a Hotel!!

Goa and then the Marriott at Goa - what a wonderful combination for a wonderful holiday! I could not have chosen a better place or a better hotel to stay in. There is no beach at the hotel, and that is about the only thing even remotely wrong with the hotel. Staff is the friendliest anywhere in the world and they literally fall over to please you!! It was a truly relaxing yet such a happening and memorable trip!!!

Marriot was great

from owltravels
I agree with the previous review from Jayne. we have also just returned from this hotel and it was fantastic. We had the same problem getting out of bed as they were wonderful (we had 2 doubles for 1 couple). The staff were great. We never met our rep but had a problem at the end with a flight which was sorted by the cosmos rep from south goa - his name is Manuel Arujo and he was great even though we were not in his resort.

This hotel has no beach, only a pool area which was very nice. We visited Candolim Beach on most days 250/300 rupees from the roadside taxis. Taxis outside hotel are v expensive but you can charge them to your room. If you visit Candolim beach be sure to walk along the beach towards Calangute til you find FRANNIE'S SHACK. I have been coming to Goa for ten years and this was one of the first on the beach. This is a shack you can trust to eat from with no worries. They have a great chef from Darjeeling so they specialise in Goan and Chinese food. Francis and Marissa the shack owners are honest and kind and everything is spotlessly clean in the kitchen. They use filtered (safe) ice cubes and the food is excellent and cheap. They also do boat trips which are not too long and you will never be ripped off.

The Marriot is a wonderful hotel and cheaper than the other 5 stars because of lack of beach but this was not a problem for us. I would def. stay there again but if travelling on Monarch I would upgrade to premium because it is so cramped. I am told that MYtravel seats are better.

exellant hotel

We have just returned from a two week holiday in Goa. Staying at the Marriott in Panji. The only problems we had was on arrival at this hotel was 6am we had two wait in lobby until 11am for our rooms to be ready we was told this was a one off then found out it was a regular occurrence so we spoke with Elizabeth who is the customer relations in the Marriott and received some complimentary goodies don’t bother with the rep useless. Apart from that hotel was fantastic! staff could not help you enough. Rooms were great beds were so comfy you didn’t want to get up in the mornings. we visited some excellent restaurants in Panji, for local Indian food we would recommend the SHEER PUNJAB in hotel aroma. Also if you are a fish lover a good Portuguese restaurant called (VENITE) we spent many good nights eating out with our good friends Mel and Barbara in these restaurants. 1f you are visiting Bagga which is only 25 mins from Panji and £3 in tuk tuks you must visit restaurant (FRANKS) for fantastic chateau briand also (TITOS)for tandoori Tiger Prawns these are all great cheep restaurants we spent most nights here as the Marriott was a bit pricey for food! if you need a taxi make sure you don’t get one from just on the road out side the hotel as the are more expensive if you walk down to the main road you will get one a lot cheaper, if you like to shop for bags or jewellery go to (ASHOKA in CANDOLIM) they have good quality stock and Once you have haggled them down in price they are the cheapest around! So as you can see we had a fantastic time Apart from when we Arrived back to Gatwick as we were saying good bye to our friends we had our hand luggage stolen from our trolley containing all our valuables we later found out that its a regular occurrence there so BE AWARE! but to leave on a good note we had a Brilliant time on holiday and what made it special we made two great friends Mel and Barbra.

Top Local Tips for Panaji

Get your new spectacles in Goa During our trip and our previous trips to Goa we have always renewed our eye wear. The opticians we use is Romano's in Panjim where you can get your eyes tested free on state of the art equipment by a qualified optician. They have a fine selection of designer glasses. I purchased 7 pairs on this trip three readers for my wife, for myself 1 set of varey focals, 1 set of prescription sports sungalsses for golf, and two other pair 1 readers and 1 long distance all designer frames. Total cost for all 7 pairs just over £205. There are many opticians in Panjim but Romano's we find give great service. It takes about 4 - 5 days to get your glasses made up. They also do reactolight lenses and contacts. Give them a try you won't be disappointed especially by the price.

buses and shopping Experience the local bus service and you can always come back in a tu tu Panji is only 10 mins on the busShop around for bargains. You can get fake gucci glasses for 250rupies which is around £3 and the thing is they tell you they are fake

Sea Food If you love sea food then go for Simply Fish restaurant in Marriotts. Its awesome.......... Little bit on the higher side price wise but woth it........
