We were fortunate to be upgraded to a corner suite on tne top floor of the original building which had a beautiful terrace.Being an NRI this meant a great deal ; I could entertain my relatives & fiends. The staff were outstandingly polite, superb service. My prayer is that this attitude never changes.( I will be there Dec.2007)

Top Local Tips for New Delhi

Delhi in a day I booked a day trip from my hotel; a SUV drove us around all day; I'm mad i didn't instead go to Taj Mahal (long 12 hr day or so). Tour was fine; i cannot recall all the places. Frankly i mostly wanted to see the poverty, less the Hindu temples, red fort, etc. I saw enough.

Watch the taxi's try the Metro If you step into a taxi from the hotel , the first thing they want to know is what your plans are for the whole day so they can stay with you and charge you loads of money.My advice if you are looking to go shopping is asking them to drop you 1 way. Delhi has a really good metro service now and it costs pennies rather than a taxi man charging you around £30 .

When shopping, the best place is the Cottage Industries Emporium In Delhi and other large cities in India, the government has a shopping complex with prefixed prices (no need to bargain -- although you may save a small amount on expensive items if you ask -- maybe 5 or 10%). They have pashminas, shawls, saris, jewellery, rugs, marble goods, and any other souvenir type items you may want
