A shock: Is A SHOCKer of a hotel!

Poor, noisy, dirty (VERY dirty) in same class as a back packers! If not worse!
NEVER EVER AGAIN!
My last stay resulted in me changing rooms 4 times in two days, and the only reason I did not continue to complain is the last room was no better than the first, and the rate of improvement was NIL. Among others, my list of complaints were:
All Rooms VERY VERY VERY Dirty
Linen Dirty and torn
Telephone did not work in two of the rooms
Entrance door keys intermittent
TV did not work in 3 of the room
No key hole, to see who is knocking (a vital security device for the international traveler - especially a lady traveler)
All Rooms too Noisy. I could Not sleep any of the nights or days, as the curtains were too thin, and some crazy guy uses a load speaker to call taxi's????
No Safe provided in any of the rooms
No Iron and Ironing board provided in any of the rooms
Tea Cups in all the rooms were very very badly stained and old and FILTHY.
Kettle did not work in two of the rooms.
The Air Conditioner did not work in two of the rooms, and only worked on maximum Cold in the 3rd.
No Hot water in one of the rooms, and only cold water in the other.
Dirty brown water from the taps, in two of the rooms.
The Toilet seat had urine on it (in two of the rooms), and the bathroom floors, tiles and mirrors very dirty.
Pubic hairs were found in the drain plug of the basin and the bath!
Bath stained and very dirty
The Window of one the rooms did not close, and bird fesses and feathers were on the carpets, from birds roosting on the window frame. All the carpets were VERY DIRTY, torn and tatty.
All light switches and fittings very dirty.
Cupboards old, musty and very dirty.
The rooms, walls, carpets, curtains, wooden floors, tables, fittings, chairs etc were all in generally very very poor condition and very dirty (from floor to ceiling)
I purchased a 1-hour internet Wi-Fi connection voucher. The Server speed, as so slow, that connection was NOT possible. (Yet I was still charged for this service)
I put up a 'DO NOT DISTURB Sign on my door, and whilst I was out, my privacy was breached: as a person entered the room to make up the bed. My personal belongings were moved and tampered with. This SIGN' is the only form of security a hotel guest has, and this was a violation of my privacy
In the interest of being brief and objective, I omit all the other minor items and complaints.
It might sound like am fussy person, but these conditions are not what one expects of an International Hotel.

Although the area around the hotel is great, the hotel is not. It can definitely not compete with Marriot, Hyatt, Radisson... The breakfast was really far from international standard.
Good but abandoned

Weel, When I first saw the hotel, I tought it was a really good one: big, lots of employers, nive people, then I realized I few important details. When I arrived in my room (big one) the bathroom was very dirty, with someone else's pis and hair. The clothes of the employers at the restaurant were very dirty also. These are a few details, but important ones you pay USD$150,00 + taxes for a room!!!
Fantastic Hotel with a few minors

I heard a great deal of bad reviews before we left. The Ashok is a government owned hotel and hence does not have the massive private investment of the other in the diplomatic enclave. I was greeted in a friendly manner when I arrived (4am, can't say I'm to impressed with Delhi Airport), staff were friendly and helpful throughout my stay. I am on the 3rd floor in a really nice room, I have two beds to myself, my room is cleaned and stocked daily. Everywhere I go I am saluted or bowed to, the decor is good, the place is clean. A few things to watch for: A few of the plug sockets have issues but for RS70 you can get a pretty good plug adaptor, the food in the 'Coffee Shop' is good enough, nothing special and the Paprika Chicken is awful, don't try the chinese restaurant, we ordered 3 plates of food and some rice and each dish got steadily worse, the first was what looks like a plate of ears (Chicken), the second looked like a pile of rotting cat poo (Beef) and the third looked like a collection of arteries and viens (Lamb) - absolutley disgusting! The rice wasn't bad though. Stay away from most of the food, check out the 'Fusion' bar, the staff are great and really freindly. I would definatley come here again.
Not happy

Hotel was booked from family who said it was very good almost hyatt. Not even close. At the door service good
then the desk to check in is chaotic. All customers are complaining at the desk. Took us to a room for 5 with one bed. I was angry and say this is absurd. Of course they barely understand english. Maybe that is not there fault
but took us to another room. Old furniture. Not kept well. Internet took hrs to fix. Then asked for cot for kids to sleep. Took 5 times to ask. Then they expected tip. Not impressive at all. Very disappointed.
