Top Local Tips for Mysore
Feel like being a kid again ok so everyone knows you should see Mysore Palace ,Chamudi Hills and Sriringapatna(for any fans of the Sharpe books, see Sharpes Tiger, this is a must) To see Mysore palace lit up you must visit on a Sunday or Bank Holiday. But if you have kids or just feel like being a kid again you must visit the water theme park. It's 350 rps a day for adults and kids under 3ft are free, yes thats correct under 3 ft ! They have some great wet and dry rides and just seeing indian kids at play is fantastic. For the ladies..wear a swimsuit rather than a bikini, this is not Goa, you will attract some attention and be prepared for people to want to speak to you, as a foreigner you are a novelty. Oh and of corse the Zoo....the best 25rps you can spend
Mysore Thalis I seemed to live off thalis in Mysore, all ridiculously cheap and offering so much food I couldn't eat it all! If you want a really good feed, full of locals, check out either the Cafe Indra, Hotel RRR or Hotel Dasaprakash. Both offer wonderful South Indian fare for next to nothing.
Badsha Textiles, 75 Deveraj Urs Rd A great shop with a very smart guy running it! He works with a good tailor who is very quick and obliging. My husband had 2 jackets made, the 2nd after he'd seen the results of the 1st. We were not going to be in Mysore long enough to pick up the 2nd jacket so it was couriered to a Badsha shop in Bangalore. Not only did we get clothes made but the owner managed to sell us lots of pashminas as well!

The facilities were sad and below average.
Requests for towels and bathroom slippers took almost 30 minutes to be delivered and that too with 3 reminders during that period.
Food was overpriced and not worth.
Staff there was giving importance only to foreigners and Indians were not attended to with the same level of importance.
It maybe because of all the positive reviews that we read (before going) that disappointed us. Therefore this review is just to let everyone be aware of what you may face and to be prepared for the unexpected.
