This hotel has two significant drawbacks : it is based on a well nigh vertical incline, so that for anybody remotely unfit it is a real struggle walking up to it (and there is no other way - taxis refuse to take you closer than 200 metres below!).

And when you do arrive, during the winter months, once the sun goes in, it is absolutely freezing. Windows in the bedrooms are not decently insulated and don't fit, and the paltry electric fires provide the only - completely insufficient - winter heating. The cold is augmented by the management's iron rule that the main doors must be kept wide open until 21.00 hours.

Only consider staying there in summer, and if you can face walking up vertical inclines each time you return to the hotel!

Its a small and cozy place with the interiors still similar to when it was in use by royalty and the rooms have the best view in Mussooorie. We had a great time having hot breakfasts and lunches on the open balcony resteraunt with the great view of the doon valley. Food is excellent- tastes great, not oily and prices are nominal. Service is good but dinner is served quite early here.
Its only a short walk to the Mall road and easy to go for a stroll in case you get tired of the peacefulness of your room. Overall we would defintely go back to Kasmanda Palace - its the best place to stay in Mussoorie

Top Local Tips for Mussoorie

A glass room with a view of the Himalayas can be found at the Classic Hotel's conservatory on top of a hill above Chamba town between Rishikesh and Tehri in Uttaranchal. This is a beautiful location from where on a clear day you get a fabulous view of the Higher Himalayas right from the Yamunotri and Gangotri glaciers (sources of the Yamuna and Ganges rivers respectively) over the Shivling, Kalanag and Trishul peaks (app 6000 m range). Nearby valleys, hills and temples are also quite scenic, as well as the impressive Tehri reservoir near Tehri Town, filled with the bottle-green mountainwaters of the Bhagirathi river, a tributary of the Ganges. Great food, gardens and relaxation areas.

A very typicaal timing for the entry/exit on and off the Mall road Please reach Mussoorie before 1700 hrs to gain entry into the Mall road if you are self driving .

Off Season visit Try visiting during offseason - just when the rain have started... do not book in advance - try booking at the location by chewcking with other options. Negotiating directly at the location can be fun and fullfiling.
