Nice fresh experience in New Deluxe Rooms !from Adam1965
I must tell you, the older rooms were nice, but the deluxe are....better than even the rooms you'll find in a higher priced hotel like Hilton !...much better !
Wooden flooring, very clean housekeeping, LCD !, Home theater !, large work desk with smart lights ! really a nice room...also the bath had a new shower cubicle with twin massage shower ! really nice !
I earlier had stayed at Hilton, which is close by, but DELUXE rooms in this hotel are my first choice for sure !!!!
Outdated, not up to Taj standardfrom tundraca
Terrific Location, Solid Hotelfrom monali1
The rooms themselves are of two breeds. You can stay on a couple of floors for a "luxury" room that seems more of a lover's pad than anything else. The showers have two fashionable, swivelling heads, and the nearly every inch of the room can be "mood lit." Complementary wine included. The rest of the hotel rooms offer nice views of the Arabian Sea, the modern conveniences of wireless internet and numerous TV channels, and a mix of bath amenities such as loofahs, bubble baths, facewash, razors, and hair products.
Downstairs one will find a good bag of restaurants if rather crammed together on the same floor. The Thai restaurant is considered to be among the best in Mumbai, La Trattoria is a decent all-hours Italian eatery of a coffee shop that also offers free made-to-order and buffet breakfasts each morning, and the Konkan Cafe is a spritely restaurant heralding authentic tastes of South India.
Additionally, the hotel hired a bar consultant from Italy for a year, the lovely Mr. Mirko, to transform its bar "Wink" and bring it up to "world class standards." And, today, this bar is known for having the best drinks in Mumbai. Give the bartenders your general mood, and you will not be disappointed with their creative concoctions that seem to hit the note every time. The bar is a bit small, however, and does not offer the dancing space of a Shiro or a Prive. Nevertheless, it is considered a solid destination for a first stop on a Saturday night or after-work watering hole.
The pool isn't too thrilling, but the gym is quite good with a modern equipment and trainers always willing to help. While the salon is quite small and unimpressive from the surface, it is probably offers one of the most thorough manicures and pedicures in Mumbai.
Lastly, the location is great. Five minutes away from great eating spots such as Indigo, Trishna, Moshe, Khybar and right next to the business hub of Nariman Point.
All in all, a worthy stay if you want to enjoy or toil in Mumbai.
My Fantastic Stay at the Taj President, Mumbaifrom KDuncan
I was visiting Mumbai for the first time since I left the place 44 years ago. I decided to stay at the Taj President because it was in the area that I used to live in and also because it was near most of the attractions that I was interested in. From the moment the taxi drew up outside the hotel I was sure that I had made a good choice in choosing this hotel. The welcome that my wife and I were given by the door attendants was very friendly and they were very helpful. When we moved on to reception we were welcomed by a very charming and polite young lady who could not do more to welcome us to the hotel. She escorted us to our room and ensured that we were familiar with every aspect of the facilities that the hotel offered. The room was on the 10th floor and had a fantastic view of the sea and the city. The decor of the room was very good and it was a reasonable size although having stayed at many similar hotels around the world I would say that the star rating of this room would be 4 star, although at the upper end. All the staff in the hotel were very friendly and courteous and always enquired if there was anything they could do to make our stay more enjoyable. The hotel had 3 restaurants that we used. The best one was the Konkan Cafe that served the type of food that had its origins on the west coast of India. The quality of the food and the choice of wine was excellent and it goes without saying that the staff were excellent. The second restaurant was the Thai Pavillon which specialised in Thai food. Again like the Konkan Cafe the food and service were excellent. The third restaurant that we tried was The Trattoria, mainly specialising in Italian food. The food was good but we did not think the staff were as friendly or efficient as the staff we encountered everywhere else in the hotel. The hotel is conveniently located for visiting the Gateway of India, Colaba Causeway and the Fort area. It is near the local bus stops and you will find buses that can get you to most parts of Mumbai. My only negative is that I found that it was better to walk out of the hotel and pick up a taxi further down the road because the taxis taken from the front of the hotel always cost us more money for exactly the same trips. Finally I would definitely recommend this hotel.
Taj President - good hotelfrom ldtc2
Very good but short of very bestfrom Panguin
The airport greeting service was excellent. The check-in was smooth. There were 3 bottles of complimentary mineral water in the room. I checked in just before lunch and when I returned after lunch, the room was done up and with a fresh bottle of water to replace what I had consumed.
I had an executive room with the seaview so it was high enough and quiet.
A couple of downsides though.
1. The carpet looked worn, which was surprising considering that the carpets in the public areas looked new.
2. The bathroom fittings and toiletries looked cheap for this class of hotel. In particular, the bowl was annoying. Someone must have mismeasured because when I sat on the bowl, my legs dangled slightly. And I consider myself somewhat tall. The average Asian would probably be dangling the legs. This must be a problem that others have pointed out. Not to fix it seems to me to be overlooking something quite basic.
3. The fan in the airconditioning could not be turned down when it got pretty noisy.
These flaws are not particular fatal; most people can probably live with them. It's just that with the reputation and the price, I'd expected more.
Disappointing room, but lovely servicefrom PNGToronto
The only positive comment is that when asked by email about our stay, we answered candidly as above and were refunded the full fee paid for the one nights stay with a promise that our complaints would be addressed.

When we arrived, while checking in, we were told that we had breakfast included (we knew this) but also one free meal per day. We were puzzled but apparently the cost was included in the room because we had paid extra or something (quite confusing).
We were in one of the newly renovated rooms, which had a plasma screen and surround sound. However, their was construction happening in one of the rooms near ours. Fortunately, we out most of the day shopping so the noise wasn't much of a problem.
The staff were very polite - all stopped what they were doing to greet us.
Advice: For breakfast, go to Trattoria instead of Konkan. Although I prefer Konkan for lunch & dinner, Trattoria is better for bfast. The selection is greater and the service is better.
Anyway, the Taj President was very good and i will probably stay there again
Excellent Hotel Taj Presidentfrom scottha
If you have stayed at a Luxury-class hotel in India (Taj, Oberoi, some InterContinental's, Imperial (Delhi)), then you know all about this hotel. If not, the experience is not easy to describe. The service is impeccable, every single member of the staff is more helpful and friendly than any place else I have ever been, with the possible exception of Disney World (Florida). There was renovation work going on at the end of our floor and the carpenters would greet us courteously ("Good evening, sir!") on the infrequent occasions we saw them. Their work was limited to 10 AM to 6PM, with a convenient break from 1 to 3 PM for naptime. One morning our [soon-to-be-punished for overstepping her place] 10 year old called the Duty Manager to ask that they stop banging for an hour so she could sleep and they actually accommodated her.
We actually stayed here twice on our trip, leaving Mumbai for a 10 day tour in the middle. The rooms we had were on the 7th and 5th floors. Though both faced the ocean, the rooms on the 7th (#703) were much quieter than those on the 5th (#517). In room 517, we seemed to hear the road noise (and outside air conditioning condensers) much more. SInce we ALWAYS travel with earplugs, this was not a significant issue.
The rooms all had a very large, dual-head glass shower, hairdryer, four complimentary bottles of water per day, iron & board, 42" (I THINK) Plasma TV with (over 40) satelite channels, including Hindi and English channels, DVD player, safe (with settable numerical code), mini-bar with refrigerator and queen bed.
There were three restaurants: Thai, Indian (Maharastian?) and Italian (24-hours). We had excellent meals at both the Italian and Indian (did not have the opportunity to eat at the very well-reviewed Thai). There is also a poolside kebab dinner, which we also skipped.
The hotel has an outdoor pool (95 degrees Fahrenheit on Xmas day!), small gym with weight machine, freeweights, treadmill(s), stairstepper, bike, recumbent bike.
Summary: Excellent Luxury-class hotel in mostly residential area of Mumbai. Very highly recommended.
Top Local Tips for Mumbai
Why use Taxis when you have a very efficient bus service The buses are cheap and there are buses that can get you to virtually any part of Mumbai that you wish to go to. Most of the conductors on the buses could speak some English.
Bombay tourism Went on a trip to bombay to see thr museums there, there are a lot of places to visit there.
Confirm an estimate taxi fare before jumping onboard, and don't trust the meter Watch the scoundrel taxi operators outside the hotel, could rip you off and pretend not to understand you.
