Most dont use meters and at night they charge extra anyway. A lot of drilvers will try to overcharge tourists especially western ones. Try negiotating the fare always remain pleasent as they are only tring to make a living, most barter and haggle in a light hearted manner and are always pleasent so dont get annoyed The safest cab drivers that are usually quite reliable are the older driver with years of experience on very hectic roads. Also at night throughout India there seems to be the odd driver that has been having a tipple or two, if in doubt get another cab and dont go with that driver
