When I first came to Mumbai I took a room in Bentley's Hotel in Colaba which is very well known by travelers. On my second stay in Mumbai I also tried Bentley's Hotel but I got really annoyed with everybody un there: First they tried to put me in some realy bad room without any windows, the the stuff was not every helpful at all, the elevator had heavy grease stains on the doors, so you got all dirty, breakfast is just some shabby dry slice of toast with a bit of jam and butter. - By a very good chance I checked out Hoel Cowies which is just round the corner. And I was so surprised: Everybody was real friendly and helpful, I coiuld check in by 8.30 in the morning (at a time when Bentley's refused to give me a room the day before), rooms were clean and big, and I felt being home at once. Check it out - it's worth being in Cowies on your stay in Mumbai!

We were originally going to stay at Cowie's for 3 nights but loved the hotel so much we stayed for 13 days instead. The reception staff and the boys who did room service were all brilliant. We were supplied with a wonderful taxi driver who didn't rip us off. All in all a wonderful stay - so good we're returning there next February!
Really comfortable rooms, great food.

My husband and I stayed a few nights here on our last days in India. It was really comfortable, with cozy rooms, and a great location. The food was fantastic. Overall, a great bargain for the price.

The surprise was a very unpleasant one: The rooms were dirty (stained bedsheets, reeking mattresses, grimy coffee table, etc). We took two rooms and in one the toilet wouldn't flush. After two days of complaining, they called a plumber, who inundated the whole bathroom. We weren't told about this upon returning to our rooms, hoping we wouldn't notice. Our soaking bathroom belongings and the water dripping from the ceiling was a bit of a give-away, though. Upon complaining, we were offered a different room, with a functional toilet. It was completely dirty and needed to be cleaned before using it, which was badly done. We then found out that the air-condition and the remote for the television didn't work.
As there is no restaurant, food was only to be had through room service. As some toast and a cup of tea for breakfast took easily half an hour to get there, we didn't adventure to order something else from the very limited menu...
The only reason for giving a rating of three instead of one is the friendliness of the boys, who tried their best to solve the problems with a smile, as well as the central and quiet location.
In our next stay in Mumbai, we certainly won't be going there again.
