Super sneaky

from abbache
Stayed here for work. It's clean and all, but man you get the runaround something awful. The service was HORRIBLE and they basically lie right to your face. Watch for the CRAZY hidden charges. We took a car for 1/2 day and all of a sudden it was twice what they quoted us.

The positives: They give you tons of bottled water.

Be very very careful

from Ray Goldberg
I did not stay at this hotel. lets make that very clear so there are no mis understandings.
I cannot rate the hotel for accomodation.
What I can tell you is that I unfortunately had to cancel my planned stay on April 19th 2007. I cancelled my stay on April 18th 2007. I prepaid my entire stay.
It is May 15th and I am still battling to obtain a refund as promised.
Hyatt first promised 10 days to gtet my refund, then 20 days and now 30 days.
Meanwhile, I am out of pocket $1,300.

Loved the Hyatt

from JunkTrips
Very nice, polished hotel with great bar and restaurant. Nicely decorated, upscale rooms, very comfortable. Friendly and efficient staff.

Great proximity to the Airport.

Appaling admin handling and overcharged!!!

from ShakesLondon
I have never been treated this appalingly by anyone especially not in such an apparently high standard hotel.
When we moved the reservation back by a couple of dates we were first told that we would be charged for the room night we now weren't using anyway, even though we were only moving the booking. Upon our return to the UK we noticed that we had been charged twice for our room - once for holing it and once for staying in it??? They are still arguing with us over why we have to pay this charge. Incredible and unbelievable. I also received some incredibly rude service on the phone when trying to re-arrange my airport transfer and was shouted at as I didn't have the exact details of my new flight even though I knew arrival times. For the money you pay here I would expect a totally different - somewhat friendlier and more curteous service approach. I wouldn't stay here again if you paid me!

Stunning hotel

from slinkyhippo
This hotel is fantastic. I was here on business while not in the best location for the heart of Mumbai it really was a pleasure staying here.
The gym/pool/steam rooms etc are well worth using and the restaurants serve excellent food. It also has a substantial wine list in the bar (which for those of you used to travelling in India, this is sometimes a rarity).
Overall I was very impressed with the look of the hotel and the quality of service.
The only downside to the hotel is it does not have a lively bar which some of the other hotels nearer the airport do.
I am back in Mumbai in a week and have booked back into this hotel.

A poor hotel

from Tonyb33
The Grand Hyatt is a poor hotel

When I checked in after flying overnight I had to check into the third room I was shown. The first had a TV with a black plug which was sparking the second had its bathroom door stuck. Eventually I had the manager check the room before I went in to ensure everything worked.

The hotel has air con but needs proper de humidifyers the hotel spelt musty

Watch out for the Taxis although you may agree a rate at the hotel the taxi drivers do not stick to them so do not give them a large note

Watch out for the shanty town ourside the hotel they burn dung for fuel not nice when the ash comes over when you are swimming in the pool

Great Property, terrible Location, Hot and Cold Service

from nyuszi
I stayed at the Grand Hyatt for business for about a week. The hotel was gorgeous, the restaurants fantasic, and the rooms were totally amazing! The bathroom was exquisite, although the glass-doored WC might have been weird if there was more than one person.
The service was off-and-on. On two nights, I received turn-down service that included gourmet bonbons. On other nights, nothing, though I was generally out of my room for the same length of time and at the same time on all evenings. Also, I did not receive a newspaper one morning. Sometimes, when I called the front desk, room service, etc, I was greeted politely by name. Other times, the person on the other end seemed annoyed to even have to deal with me. I also had one bellman who was a little unprofessional and kind of hounded me whenever I was in the lobby.
And the location... it was easy access to the airport, but far enough away to not BE an airport hotel. But it was really in the middle of nothing. You woudl have to take a cab just to go get a stick of gum.
Finally, the shopping was nothing special. Just a very small "mall" with many empty shops. The website promised an on-site convenience store, but there was none.

Grand first impression, not so grand follow up

from midas
Let me clarify at the outset, we had an extended stay at this hotel, so its very possible that some of the flaws may not come up during a normal business visit of 3 to 5 days. In case of a short visit I would probably give this hotel 4 stars.
As I mentioned , the first impression is very grand, especially after US hotels, this place seems incredibly grand and the foyer and lobby are excellently decorated. The rooms are a bit on the smaller side, but given that Mumbai real estate is like New York, I guess the rooms are a pretty decent size. The complimentary bottles of water in the room are a boon, I found staff and service to be the biggest asset of this place. People were most willing to help.
The gym is an excellent feature and in addition to latest equipment has pro trainers, fresh towels and bottles of water. The treadmills are superb and fitted with little tv consoles. I heard great things about the spa but couldn't make it there myself.
The hotel has a 4 restaurants , M has a large sunday brunch spread, the grand cafe has an excellent buffet- this is where we ended up taking most of out meals, has excellent managers and wait staff! The indian restaurant was a big letdown, with small portions and food wasn't that great either. Didn't try the Italian place, but that's supposed to be a big favorite too.
Now to the cons, this hotel is located absolutely in the middle of nowhere, no place to take a stroll outdoors, the view may also be compromised. The pool was pitiful for such a large hotel, it's 4 ft at the deepest. Plus once the monsoons started the corridors had this damp smell which was absolutely nauseating! The room also had some wierd odors at times, which probobly came in form the damp carpets outside. Also be warned the moment you enter the hotel you will smell strong spicy food- not for the weak stomached. The internet service is another rip off! I find it amazing that such a huge , world class hotel doesn't offer complimentary internet, it is too expensive and also be warned due to IP recognition you can use only one laptop for the price you have paid.
Overall the place is very close to the airport, good service, probably perfect for business travellers, but certainly not for families or holidaymakers.

Yawn - huge monolith of a quality hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Hyatt is a huge huge hotel, with wonderful rooms, nice foyers, and five star service.

The hotel, however has no soul... the staff don't care about service, just the tips and the food is nothing special. Only if you have business in this area should you stay here. Its in the middle of nowhere, and lacks any indian soul. From my room, i could be in Atlanta.

I have previously stayed in the Intercontinental Marine Drive - a far superior choice.

Great Hotel -- which discriminates

from A TripAdvisor Member
Grand Hyatt is a great hotel, but like the airlines in North America, can give you the same service for different prices. This was the second time I stayed with them. The first time I found a guest, my neighbor (next room) was paying INR4600 per day, when I was paying INR6600. Also watch out for a ripoff on your internet service.. they charge you INR2500 per day for 24 hours, unless you make a prior reservation and specify their standard price which is INR864/day. Their club room is the same as the normal room, so dont go for the club room. The "complimentary" breakfast and internet is not worth it, you can get the same or better breakfast for less. We had a reservation for INR7600 but our bill showed INR12000 when we were ready to check out. They later checked the central reservation and corrected the error so watch out for "errors". I almost missed my flight trying to "correct" this error, which should have been a simple matter. They seem to give better rooms facing the pool or the courtyard only if you ask for it, if not you may face the shanty town around the hotel or get an interior room. The rooms are well appointed, with very good detailng, somewhat stark but nicely done. The shower makes water splash out, so put some towels around the glass of the shower to keep the floor wet.

Ambience of the restaurants is excellent, food is so so. We ordered lamb chops, and got three skinny ribs with little meat on them, while we paid the top price in the entire menu at the Celini for that order. Some meals were excellent, but food is not consistently good and certanly overpriced for its quality. The spa is excellent, so is the health club.

The staff is too serious and can be impolite or unavailable. I would stay there again, as there are no other hotels as nicely done as this one. Just watch for price ripoffs. All in all an exceptional hotel in Mumbai in my view.
