Historical Traveller Reviews of Taj Hari Mahal Hotel

Really nice modern hotel in traditional style

from itrapnell
This is a great hotel. The hotel is extremely comfortable, well decorated (modern but traditional throughout) and the rooms are large. The reception welcome is good (garlands, welcome drink etc), as is the service in general. The pool area is really good, with a lovely clean pool. Food is great - we ate there for breakfast every day, and a couple of times in the evening - the BBQ outside has especially excellent food. The location is OK, but you will need to get a rickshaw or taxi to the main attractions as they are all quite spread out. Overall, very good.

Very enjoyable stay

from Vin7
On arrival at the Taj hari we recieved garlands and were welcome personally by the staff, room service food was provided on a round table and was tasty! The actual indian restaurant and breakfast buffet were great also. The staff couldn't be more helpful and attentive at this hotel. The TV had 70 channels and air-con was great. Daily paper was a nice touch. The pool water was very clean and poolside was not too crowded with great pool attendants. I didn't want to leave this hotel it was such a pleasant stay, and not too far from the Mehengarh Fort (15 mins) and Umaid Bhawan (10 mins). Go and experience this hotel for yourself!

An excellent Taj Group Hotel

from M.R.Carr
A recently built hotel but designed in a most appropriate style.Comfortable rooms,an immaculate pool, good food, and friendly service.

GREAT Hotel, GREAT Staff

from Doggpile
We had stayed at the Taj Hari Mahal for three nights, and found it to be one of our best hotel experiences ever! The hotel itself is lovely--spacious & tastefully appointed room, good dining (make sure you try the barbeque by the pool), and a terrific pool. But it is really the staff that make this hotel outstanding. From the moment we checked in, they were constantly seeking ways that they could make our stay a better experience, and they were genuinely kind and lovely people. I HIGHLY recommend this hotel.

A NEW HOTEL IN COLONIAL STYLE

from curryking
Large deluxe hotels leave me cold as usually they could be anywhere in the world. I prefer something small and friendly and typical of the country but this hotel is an exception. It has great style and the staff are very friendly and look wonderful in stylish uniforms. I was unfortunately ill during my stay so didn't experience the restaurant but heard that the food was very good.

Wonderful!

from sneschi
Unfortunately I did not stay in this hotel but I had an excellent dinner at the restaurant around the pool are. The service was excellent and the staff was wonderful. The gave me sooo much attention even though I was not a guest. I will surely stay here on my next trip and the food was excellent. Thank you!!!

Loved the Taj Hari Mahal

from Shilpav
This hotel exceeded our expectations. Not as expensive as the other Five Star places (Lake Palace, Rajvilas), the rooms were beautiful and spacious. The service was very good, and the hotel centrally located. The pool, grounds, and Gym were also lovely. Sometimes newer construction in India really helps, as all the modern conveniences were readily available. This is a very good option in Jodhpur.

Great hotel

from KKSouthampton
This is a beautiful hotel. The service and food were very good. We hired a hotel car for a tour of the city and then for 3 days for a tour to Jaisalmer. It cost abotu £40.00 per day, excellent value.
Reception booked dinner for us at Umaid Bhawan where I had dined previously when it was under different management and buffets were served in the impressive dining hall.
This time we dined a la carte at 'Pillars' the restaurant on a terrace overlooking the garden.
The food was good but the service appalling. We waited a long time for the food and for the bill and again for the bill in the bar. We didn't complain but they did give us free desserts and apologised.
What a contrast to the wonderful service when we had lunch at Lake Palace, Udaipur a few days previously.
If you get a chance do go there. It's well worth the expense.

Stay here

Stay here.

This is a great hotel, the service and setting is awesome.

Whilst modern, the architecture is tasteful.

In a hectic city, this hotel is an oasis of tranquillity.

It is admittedly not as grand as its sister hotel, the Umaid Bhawan, though it is cheaper, but the front desk at the Taj Hari Mahal arranged dinner for us at the Umaid Bhawan - they had someone waiting when we arrived to show us around the various restaurants, and he ended up reserving for us a prime table in the outside restaurant, with a view over the candle-lit gardens. The Lonely Planet people don't rate the Umaid Bhawan but, at least for dinner, it was an amazing, romantic experience, and far cheaper than an equivalent dinner in London.

All in all, a big thumbs up.

Discrimination between Foreigners and Indians

from A TripAdvisor Member
I just thought I would let you know my recent experience at the Taj Hari Mahal in Jodhpur while staying there with my indian boyfriend.

Did you know that Taj group and I suspect other large chain hotels in India charge different amounts for Foreigners and Indians - their published tariffs - I know that it happens in other hotels in India but I did not think it would happen in the large groups.

We tried to book a 2 night package and when we went onto their website it asks are you a resident or foreigner and as I was paying I signed in as an Indian and although the website didn't work I then sent an email asking for this package - on our arrival as soon as the management saw I was with a foreigner instead of charging me the rupee rate, which was Rs 3400 per night they charged me $95 per night. This meant that over the 2 night period I was charged an extra $30 dollars.

Their excuse was that it was because of the C Forms and the tourist office/police. This is not true as we know.

It does not ask on the website if you are with a foreigner you have to pay the dollar price and you can imagine we had a big fight with them over this. It is the principle if Indian can afford to stay at Taj hotels then both foreigners and indians should pay the same price as foreigners are usually on a budget.
