Top Local Tips for Jaipur

Choki Dhani - Yes, Indiana - No Our driver suggested two different places in Jaipur on two different nights. Some drivers receieve commission for bringing their passengers to certain restaurants and shopping areas, but we had been with him for a few days, and found him trustworthy, so we tried both. Choki Dhani did not disappoint. Essentially a permanent festival found outside Jaipur, it had a good sit-down thali, solid carnival-like entertainment, and Rajasthani singing and dancing. Definitely a highlight of our trip. Indiana, on the other hand ... tourist trap, squared. The food was way overpriced and underspiced, and the waitstaff spent far more time with profitable tour groups than other customers. Even though they had beer (a relative rarity in Rajasthan), it was the single worst place we dined during our eight days in India.

Jaipur is a shopping paradise Shopping is great in Jaipur but be prepared to bargain a lot

Bargain.. Bargain and Bargain when ever you purchase anything in the shopes near the hawamahal areas, do bargain a lot.. better to start at around 25% of what is quoted and finish around 40-50%..not more than that...
