Worst Lounge Singer Ever

The Taj Krishna considers itself to be "the" hotel in Hyderabad. Don't get me wrong, it's very nice. Attentive staff and the lobby and grounds are immaculate. Well a little over the top with gilt, mirrors and statuary, but hey, it's India.

I found my room to be comfortabel and clean, although I had constant problems with the wireless internet. The tv was also a little old school, considering some of the rooms have flat panel tv's, the other ones still have old sets.

The breakfast was decent, but the hotel restaurants are all top notch. The bar/lounge is nice enough, except for the singing act. I would have paid them money to just stop. Really made my $7 beer taste blah.

If you're looking for a bargain, this isn't it. If you want a nice, pleasant experience, the Taj Krishna is perfect. And you can drink the tap water in the hotel.

New hotel needed in Hyderabad

I think if you're travelling to Hyderabad on business and spend little or no time in the hotel, the Krishna is a great place to stay. Or if kitchen odors and rock music blasted out in the lobby don't bother you, again this is a great place to stay. The Taj group...not only here in Hyderabad, but elsewhere as well (the West End for example in Bangalore)...seems to have decided that their hotels should appeal to both international guests as well as hard-drinking local crowds (mostly male) for whom a night out on the town means to dress in oversize underwear and ogle young underdressed Asian `singers' who sway seductively to ear-splitting tapes; a combo which may make money, but simply doesn't work. This ear-splitting noise, along with the all-too-apparent kitchen odors, assaulted us every time we entered the Krishna's lobby. The rooms are unimaginative Taj average, with the usual small motel type bathrooms. The two restaurants, however, the Chinese and Indian, were excellent. The garden and pool area were lovely; even if there were insufficient lounge chairs for the guests, and the outside members who came during the weekends. The hotel's management seems to think it's fine for people to sit directly on the ground. Food service around the pool is poor. We waited over an hour for an order of tea...just tea, nothing else. This said, the Krishna is purportedly Hyderabad's best hotel, which doesn't say much for the others. Anyone want to build a new hotel in Hyderabad?

I stayed at the Taj Krishna for about 4 weeks, it was enchanting the lobby that is, rooms are also clean, Staff were accommodating, I wa smoved three times until I secured a Club level room. Bathroom are good, clean and staff work around my schedule, I worked at nights.

Restarant:

Breakfast was phenomenon expet I have to take a shower every time I come back from Breakfast, they have no vents.

Car Hire service:

[--] being charged for a whole day instead of the 2 hours that was agreed upon, I was refunded the balance on check out.

Its a nice hotel and probably the best in the City. I will stay there on my next trip and you can be sure I wil definetly review it and note there improvements.

Taj Krishna Review: 9/10, very comfortable

I stayed at the Krishna for four weeks while doing business in Hyderabad. The service is excellent and the staff is very friendly. The rooms are nice, cozy, and very clean. Bathrooms are very nice and include black and red marble. The beds are very nice and include extra pillows for lounging.

Food at the hotel is very good although is not very reasonable for the price. Room service menu is quite extensive and offers many types of cusine, 24 hrs a day. Try the mango ice cream.

The business "Taj Club" rooms have 48" flat screen LCD TVs and a DVD player. Wireless 802.11b internet is good and best reception is near the windows as the access points are outside the hotel. Laundry service is prompt, done well, and comes with a rose on delivery. The health club is nice offering a steam room, excercise area, tennis courts, outdoor pool, and massages.
"Firdus", the Indian cusine, is very good and well worth a trip that also includes live music. "Golden Dragon", the chinese cusine, is good although can be a time consuming dinner (expect ~2 hrs). "Encounters", the 24 hr continential, has an extensive breakfast and special themes throughout the week (ex: seafood buffet).
The only poor service I had was one of the personal drivers for hire. Price was discussed in advance although I was charged for a full day's service. Be sure to catch a sunrise from the hotel where you look out over the lake. Overall, an excellent stay away from home.

Home away from home!

I stayed at the Taj Krishna a total of six months spread over three separate trips to Hyderabad for work. It was truly a home away from home. During my three trips there during 2003 and 2004, I stayed in superior rooms, deluxe rooms, and also on the club floor. Each of my rooms was excellent, with comfortable beds and great bathrooms. The rooms were always very clean, and the staff were always willing to work around my schedule (I worked nights).

The hotel facilities were great as well. The restaurants served good food, as did the room service. I loved the pool, especially during the very hot summer. The fitness center, while small, was very well-equipped. A number of renovations were going on during my stays there, so I can only imagine that the hotel is even nicer now. The jewelry shop in the hotel had some beautiful pieces, and the staff were willing to bargain. I also went to the T2 disco several times, and I never had to pay a cover (I think hotel guests get in free) My one wish was that the business center had more computers, as there was only one available when I was there. My laptop died during one trip, and I found it difficult to find the business center computer free. Perhaps they have more computers now.

I can't say enough about how wonderful the staff were. Everyone was helpful, nice, and called me by name. If I had been back in the US for several months, they remembered me when I returned. I was always able to find someone who could help me tie a saree, direct me to a restaurant, or fix something in my room. One of my coworkers had a medical emergency during the middle of the night, and the hotel staff immediately ensured that the hotel doctor came to her room straightaway.

If my future travels find me in Hyderabad again, there is no question where I would stay.

Best in Hyderabad

Excellent hotel with the greatest attention to service. The rooms are great, try to get a club room and facing the rear of the property. The noise from the street out front is continuous with the beeping of the horns and such....

Golden Dragon, the Chinese place is really great. The continental breakfast at the lobby restaurant is also good. Ask for South Indian coffee with lots of warm milk (it's like espresso + milk). The drip coffee is very different from the US.

Tip the door men, waitstaff, housekeepers and drivers as they will take very good care of you (and are sometimes a welcome sight after negotiating wonderful yet sometimes harrowing streets of the city).

There are no alarm clocks in the rooms. Bring one. Few hairdryers and steam irons so order them from the front desk early.

This is truly one of the most wonderful hotels in Hyderabad.

The hotel is beautifull, the staff friendly, the food at the Indian restaurant great. It was a very good experience. The grounds look great. Next time I stay here, I need more time to try the pool. It looked really good.

The Taj Krishna was first rate, and was definitely the nicest place I stayed in India. The lobby and rooms feature a lot of wood, and have a nice 'old school' luxury hotel charm. The food at the hotel's Indian restaraunt was excellent (I also liked the Chinese restaraunt). I'm headed back next time I'm in Hyderabad.

I stayed at the Taj Krishna on business for 3 weeks in February 2004. The first week I stayed on the 4th floor, which was a nice enough room. I did some leisure travel for a week, and then returned for two addtional weeks, staying on the 6th floor in a club room. I highly recommend the club rooms because they come with a complementary breakfast, snack, bar on the 7th floor in the "Taj Club". As with all 5* Indian hotels, every need is attended to. I tended to go to the buffet restaurant frequently because it's so handy and has a variety of western and asian foods, but do try the Chinese restaurant - it was excellent. The rooms feature a lot of wood, with plenty of hangers, nice furniture. The pool and grounds are beautiful, and you can get a massage for the equivalent of $17 US. The service is very good. My wife found that if you tip the servers in the Taj Club, flowers arrive in your room ;-).

Top Local Tips for Hyderabad

Think outside of the box!!! Don't llimit yourself to a hotel food, which is designed to cater to unassuming foreigners. Try Tabla for great veg and non-veg food, it has a decent atmosfere but good food, and there is a nightclub across the hall called Liquids. Kamat hotel and Chutneys is great for some vegiterian fare. If you are a buffet lover order a thali, which will fill you up, but won't dent your budget. For a shopping ask consierge to give you someone to assist you and bargain for you, as if you venture out you can find great deals. Avoid places designed for "Rich Foreigners" where they will overchatge you by at least 200%, one way to tell if a store is such place if they offer clothes, carpets, Kashmiri shawls, and souveneers all under same roof. Make it clear that you want to go to a local place, not touristy place. Women, dont try to walk around local places alone, men here will defenetly stare at you.
