Top Local Tips for Dharamshala
Dharamshala Times Besides the scenic beauty, great sightseeing oportunities and monastries, home to thousands of Buddhist monks, Dharamshala has a lot more to offer. One can sample several cuisines at the myriad restaurants set up by tibetans and people of european nationalities. The food is almost authentic and delicious. We managed to get an appointment with the Karmappa (24 years old), the next Dalai Lama. Security was tight and no cameras allowed inside, so no snaps with the Karamappa, but one with a student monk at the monastry. Some of the spots, waterfalls etc. were on a tricky terrain accessible only on foot - so we trekked to get those shots. The loss of memory stick while unpacking in Bhopal was painful. However, a month later, we found the snaps in the memory of the camera. Thank God, all that effort didn't go waste
By air To Jammu by air from Delhi or Bombay and from there to Dhramshala by car (Tata Indica,Toyota Innova,Tata Indigo) to Upper Dharamshala-Mcleodgung via Pathankot or by air again from Jammu to Gaggal and then by car to Mcleogunj. The 1st one by rod is preferable.Stay nearby the Dalai Lamas residence, preferably at Hotel Bhagsu of HPTDC.
