The rooms are very out dated, pillows are old and lumpy, and the bed sheets, while they appear to be clean, are stained and gross. We stayed for 2 nights and the room was never cleaned or serviced, even though we put out the 'service room' sign. We were in the basement, so it was rather dark and musty, and the walls were paper thin, and we could hear everything in the next room and hallway. Not a pleasant experience.
With an untrained staff and poor location, the Viceroy is best passed over for other options. To begin with, the "bed" is a 3-inch foam pad on a slab of wood; no matress or box-springs. This may be acceptable at a budget hotel, but clearly not for a hotel with an average room rate around $90 per night. The "bed" is indicative of the overall quality of the other facilities and services. . .thin and uncomfortable. With so many hotels in Darjeeling, there is no need to punish yourself at the Viceroy

The room I had put up was on the 8th floor & had a matress of around 8 inches. Although I travel all around the world but I will strongly compare Viceroy as a world class hotel. the staff was very courteous & very helpful. The food too was excellent & the decor of the room was even better than ITC Sonar bangla (5 star) kolkata, where I had put up in my transit to mumbai.
as far as location goes, there cannot be a better location than this hotel as it is situated in the heart of the town just adjacent to the clock tower.
The other indoor amenities such as steam, sauna, jacuzi & the wonderful massage was of great help to us as we were pretty unlucky during our 4 day stay there, as it was raining almost all the time. Even we spent great time playing billiards in the lobby. what I especially liked about the lobby was it was very spacious & had a atrium in the centre with a fire place.
I would once again recomend this hotel to all the people visiting Darjeeling......
