I had been to this hotel to dine at the rooftop restaurant for the first time. This place is really great to dine and I have not seen any place with a good ambience like this one in Chennai. It's only greenery around this hotel, and like to tell you that their staffs are really trained to handle their customer very professionally, also their Havana pub is a great place to rock.

I booked my few rooms for my family wedding at the raintree, the response was great, the staffs their welcomed my relatives with a warm smile and made their stay comfortable not to mention that when my grandparents and other senior members where late for their flight,We were assisted by their staffs at the airport too.On the whole the service was excellent from the time our relatives checked into the hotel and till their departure at the airport. I wish the Raintree management Goodluck in the coming years...

I just returned from Chennai and wanted to share my experiences at this hotel. I was in Chennai for four weeks for business and I stayed at the Raintree the whole time. They provided top notch service that was consistent and always friendly. The many restaurants are all good and provide some variety. The staff was friendly and helpful. I felt like a prince the entire time I was there. Check out the dance club downstairs on the weekends for a fun evening of dancing to American pop music.
You will notice that the doorman never leaves. I began to wonder why he was always there and it turns out there are twin brothers that man the door 24 hours a day. Very interesting and sort of weird. But it is nice to see the same face greet you at all hours of the day.
Take a hotel car and driver out for a day of shopping or sight seeing. I went to Mahabalipurum and Kanchipurum to see the temples and I highly recommend Raman as your driver. He is courteous and will steer you away from all the pan handlers as well as take you to the best shops in Chennai. A word of caution, many of the high end shops provide kickbacks to the drivers and they will take you to the expensive shops just to get a kickback. Especially the auto-rickshaw drivers. But not Raman. He took us to good store with little pressure form the salesmen and almost always fixed prices. A hotel car and driver will cost you about $65 for a whole day.
The rooms are nice and comfortable. Take advantage of the two complimentary bottles of water per day. You will need them. The beds are very firm, but I have heard that most beds in Chennai are firm.
Overall, I had a great experience and I would go back to the Raintree again the next time I am in Chennai.

Best View, WORST Food

It is a pity they have NOT managed to get the food pairings / menu right at any of their restaurants, esp. at the Rooftop place. The small, local places around the city serve much better food. And, the staff CANNOT afford to be so indifferent to their guest's feedback, when such a vital element of their product is “Below Sea-Level” !

I made an online booking and after taking my credit card info, didnt get any room confirmation. I called up the next day and was told there are no rooms available and that its not possible the website could have taken my booking. I even sent them a mail to confirm that they would not charge my credit card and received a confirmation from them on the same. However lo and behold when my credit card bill came they have charged me for a room which they never gave me. Now ive been writing to them to refund the amount and they just choose not to reply. Very unprofessional hotel and management and saty away from their online booking system. Till date Im chasing them for my refund

Never felt like a 5 star to me. Located between a row of houses. Mostly street parking. Expensive Drinks with a 5star tag. Would prefer the true older 5 star hotels. Stay away!

I was at Raintree in last November while on an official tour. Since the hotel is newly constructed, all its features are good. But the only thing that I didnt like was the food (especially the Lunch and Dinner). Though they do have lots of varieties but sill they need to improve the quality of food served.

Top Local Tips for Chennai

Chennai gets better Ten years ago I thought this was one of the least attractive cities I had ever been to. It now seems almost transformed and it seems to be a pleasant place. (And the traffic is, by Indian standards, not too bad at all). There are only a few historic sites for the tourist to inspect but Chennai now seems to make a good gateway to southern India for the tourist and well worth a few days stopover.

Oasis in Chennai Visit shops like Evoluzione, Rehane and ManMandir in Nungampakam in Nawaz Khader Road. Also visit Chaintanya Rao in the same road for exclusive designer experience

Coffe Chennai has some great coffee houses. Very close to The Raintree is a popular one called Chamiers. Its definitely a must go while your in Chennai.
