I stayed at hotel VIP continental for 3 nights and experienced the worst experience.
1. The room tariff was too high(Rs. 2100+tax) compared to other hotels when you can get an A/C double room @ Rs. 900/- in a nearby hotel(Afreen Towers)

2. Too much noise on the lobby. Imagine someone creating noise at 2.00 a.m

3. On noisy road

4. No body responds on the room service ph no given in the directory. So u have to call reception everytime. One night it took an hour for them to take my order for dinner and another 1 hr to serve it


Overall an experience which needs to be forgotten

Top Local Tips for Calcutta

Kolkata needs some more decent budget-level accomodations There a quite a few around, especially close to the tourist attractions like mother Teresa Sarani, Park Street etc. And admittedly, they cater to the backpack western tourist, for the most part. There are the low-end and then there are the really unaffordable high-end hotels in this city, like most cities in India. Kolkata needs some of the local hotel owners/ operators to step up and make their establishments cleaner, greener, and value-able. That can only happen over time but they need to do that before some established 'chain' comes in and takes their business.
