Amazing stay

from ruchichheda
The trip to Bangalore was one of the most awaited visit after long working months. Thanks to Taj West it which mad our tour the most memorable. Our flight was delayed by 6hrs because ofsome weather conditions but the driver was there to receive us after such a long delay. I would have fainted if I dint see him there because we were all exhausted. Got an immediate check in. We were booked for the Club rooms. Wide cozy rooms with a perfect décor & CLEAN bathroom. We had complimentary cocktail hrs. Blue ginger bar is the place you can chill out all night. Amazing food & friendly staff. Overall just a real 5* deluxe hotel where every penny is worth it

Taj West End

from t50
I stayed in the Taj West End in Bangalore for 2 nights in April. It is a very pleasant hotel with the rooms set in a series of low rise building throughout the hotels gardens. The rooms themselves are very well appointed and comfortable. The staff were unfailingly helpful and friendly. Certainly to be recommended but as with all hotels in Bangalore really quite expensive.

Top class hotel

from Bourneman1971
We stayed at the Taj for 5 weeks for work. I have nothing but praise for the hotel. The room was spacious and very luxurious. It had a real feel of colonialism with a four poster bed. The staff amazing bordering on embarassing because they were so nice. It is a real oasis in the middle of a busy city. Food excellent, bars great. I would go back there again, although it is better when your company is paying for it!

Great but extortionate

from Faultfinder
This hotel is set in wonderful gardens, has some great restaurants and the staff are very polite and speak good English.

Having said that you do get the feeling that this hotel is trying to extract as much cash from you as possible. If the $350/night rate (plus tax) wasn't painful enough, $15 for a bottle of Evian mineral water from the mini bar might make you think again. I also made a 45 minute call to USA - sure I thought it would be an expensive call but I never imagined it would cost more than $200.

The breakfast buffet needs more choice although the evening menu is pretty good, as is the Vietnamese restaurant. The gym was a disappointment.

Overall a great place to stay but watch out for the mini bar and any international phone calls.

Superior hotel, wonderful service and excellent food

from A TripAdvisor Member
My wife and I have been at the Taj West End for a relocation/orientation trip of a week at the end of July 2005.
The hotel is really nice, the garden is gorgeous and it is unbelievable you can have such a peaceful oasis at a just walk able (but never do that) distance from the business district.
I agree with some previous reviews that the swimming pool and the gym are not adequate for the place. But the hotel is overall really nice, rooms (we had the junior suite) are spacious and, most of all, the service is absolutely excellent. I would also like to mention the food which is really superior. My wife is a chef (with a critic attitude) and we really enjoyed the dinners and the breakfast buffet as well as the Sunday brunch at the Mynt restaurant. There are three different cuisines always available there: the Lebanese, the Italian and Indian one, and all of them are superb in terms of quality as well as preparation. In particular, the Italian chef Stefano Beraldi singled out for quality, preparation and originality: thanks to him we have had the best Italian food you could possibly have outside Italy and he really is a winning score for the Taj West End in Bangalore.
Overall, I recommend the Taj West End: if you are not planning to stay it’s just worth a visit to enjoy the Italian food.

Nice and relaxing !

from jondav
The Taj West End is a little out of the way and closer to the Sheraton/Meridien hotels and opposite the racecourse.

I have stayed here a couple of times now and like it because (A) the rooms are larger than average and (B) it is a little bit cheaper than the Oberoi/Leela and (C) it is nice and quiet/relaxing.

As the hotel is surrounded by its' own area of garden, you do feel a little more isolated from the hubble/noise of Bangalore and its' traffic, etc.

The food is fairly good, service is excellent and the Vietnamese restaurant is pretty good. On weekends the 'Ginger' bar gets packed with local Bangaloreans.

The pool and gym both need upgrading.

It has a 24 hour restaurant which can be handy after a late one !

Overall, a nice mix of relaxation and a bit of an oasis after a manic day in the office.

Great experiece

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed in a Superior room and loved the huge comfy bed, plasma TV and beautiful decor. The room was in a condo which overlooked a large garden with enormous gul mohar trees. The room and food were expensive compared to other Bangalore hotels, but the staff was attentive and helpful at all times (which may have been induced by our liberal tipping). We were assigned a butler who ran various errands for us and even drew us a milk bath in our room - complete with candles and rose petals. We've also heard great things about Leela Palace and may stay there next time.

Mixed experience

from pdeeChicago
The Taj Club Superior rooms are great (42" plasma TV, comfortable bed, great bathroom, etc). The standard Taj Club rooms are bigger but old and dated (and bed is not as comfy).

I did have some problems with the Taj W/E on recent stay (Feb 05). The laundry managed to shrink 2 pairs of my wife's pants despite having them dry-cleaned (ie I'm sure they were put into a drier as they had been dry-cleaned several times previously back in US and also at Oberoi in Mumbai without shrinking). The laundry staff took them back and tried to stretch them out and managed to rip the seam in one pair and neglected to mention that when they returned them.

Closet door to mini-bar on Taj Club Superior room did not sit properly on the hinges and hence wouldn't close completely (meaning the light that turns on when the door is opened was always on and we had to jam something against the switch to turn it off). The external light above the front-door was out and not fixed during the 3 days/nights I was there.

The food at Mynt is fair to bad and gave me slight case of food poisoning. The Blue Ginger (Vietnamese) restaurant is good.

re on vacation

from kickball
And who goes to Bangalore for a vacation?

I'll grant you that the cafe has recently changed cuisines for the better - I believe it is Thai now.

The trouble with the Taj is that is a big resort hotel in the middle (actually the west end) of a big business city. Sure, there's lots of staff hanging about, but they're not that anxious to help you, and they'll sure take their time when you finally get their attention.

The hotel itself is old, but nice. Its an OK place to stay, but there's better in B'lore.

Great service!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed at the Taj West End for a month for business purposes. The rooms were very clean but the amentities were on the older side. The outside of the hotel was very well maintained. The service provided by the hotel was excellent! The staff was very willing to help in every way they could to make your stay more enjoyable. The food provided by the room service was very expensive for the quality and quantity you receive. Overall my stay was very enjoyable and I would stay at the Taj West End again.
