Simply the best
from BArocksTo say they get it is (price / value) an understatement! I can't say enough about their location, rooms are large (bed is fantastic - plus you can choose from 5 different kinds of pillows), large bathroom (with steam feature) internet connection, pub & other restaurants (didn't have a bad / mediocre meal at any one of them!) not to mention their grounds (beautiful, quiet and mosquito free - they spray (fog) the grounds every night. Water is potable.
Staff is simply outstanding and display very quiet and genteel service. If you stay in a business class room they even provide a butler! My colleagues and I had to prepare a report and spent the day in the bar area and never once got the impression they wanted us to move on (we noticed others working the same)
Did I have a great and relaxing time - YES!
Would I stay there again - IN A HEARTBEAT!
Are you crazy if you don't try it? -DEFINITELY
I'll be looking for Obero Hotels in future travels
Decent - if expensive
from GrabthanHotel is fine - good rooms, excellent service, reasonably priced restuarants. $350 a night is very expensive though, but that's Bangalore for you !
Don't miss Sunday brunch at the Leela - all you can eat (Indian, Japanese, Chinese) and drink for about £12 a head. Great value and super location. Leela shops worth a look as as well.
Excellent Service
from DudesDaddyBest hotel in Bangalore
from jondavRoom/butler service is very efficient and the local Thai restaurant is consistently excellent.
Rooms are very nice, colonial style, clean and comfortable.
Gym is smallish, but okay and the spa employs Thai masseuses (not Indian) for probably the best massage in town if you feel like being pampered !.
All around, the bets hotel in town :)
Bangalore Oberoi
from A TripAdvisor MemberJust OK
from pdeeChicagoThe hotel is definitely nice, but the Leela or Taj West End are definitely superior.
Perfect Revival after a very long flight
from orange108From the delicacy of the service, to the comfort of the rooms, I felt pampered and spoiled. The beds were delicious. The food was excellent and the new Thai spa (I had the Balinese massage) was beyond words. I have never slept so well whilst travelling. I would really recommend this hotel for at least one night's treat whilst travelling around this wild and wonderful country. It will set you up!
Only one downer, the pool is too cold!!
And this is from another hotel owner!
Top Hotel, shame about Bangalore
from A TripAdvisor MemberWonderful garden, and comfortable rooms with all amenities. Good restaurants on site and lovely bar. World-class, shame it's in Bangalore.
t be back
from Shakespeare_fanMy major complaint is the noise. MG road is literally just outside your front door. The traffic noise starts quite early in the morning and goes deep into the night. They provide an inner door that insulates your bedroom area from the rest of the room. This is fine, but if you need to get up and use the toilet or get something from the minibar or closet, you have to open the door and expose yourself to the sounds coming in through the front door.
More particularly, on my 2nd night there I was awakened at around 2 AM by loud noise being made by some sort of machinery. It sounded like the carpet cleaning equipment I've seen in US offices. I called the manager and complained, but the noise did not stop for at least another 30-45 minutes. The next day when I complained about this I was told that what I heard was the housekeeping crew working on rooms being prepared for the Lufthansa crew.
There was a time when Oberoi was considered the best hotel in town. There are several other options now in this price range. After this experience, I'll be going somewhere else next time.
Great 5-star
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe restaurants and bar were great; although I cannot comment upon the Chinese cuisine restaurant, as I did not dine there. The rooms were spacious and well-appointed, and had excellent sound insulation from the (extraordinarily) noisy M.G. Road which is outside the hotel. Room service and mini-bar were an excellent value, which is a nice change of pace.
The grounds were pleasant, and totally shielded from the aforementioned MG Road noise.
The staff was polite, accomodating, quick to provide service, and well-trained. One potential area of improvement is occasional staffing level lapses -- while certainly high by western standards, given the low cost of labor, there should not have been even the occasional lapses in staffing which I noted (e.g., no housekeeping to make up a room when the "make up room" sign was hunge for several hours in the evening, absences at the bell desk and cashier).
The Oberoi offers the best, bar none, airport transfer service I have ever encountered at a hotel. At no additional charge, a late model, leather-seating-area car with driver greeted me at the airport and ferried me to the hotel, and back to the airport upon my departure. Even better, a hotel employee walked me through the entire check-in and immigration clearance process (lugging luggage, etc.)
One piece of advice: the conceriege's car service recommendations are quite overpriced. Consult with your hosts in Bangalore to get a referral to an outside car service or two, who should be able to beat the quotes by quite a bit for a late model air conditioned car with driver. You WILL need a car and driver while you're there, needless to say.
One comment on location: Bangalore is big, and the traffic is terrible. Check carefully with your hosts to make sure that your hotel is well-situated to where you'll be working or visiting. The Oberoi, for example, is a solid one hour drive in typical traffic to "Electronics City" where many of the major IT companies (e.g. Infosys) are based. (Many other companies are right near the Oberoi, of course.)
Top Local Tips for Bangalore
Taking Taxis or Rickshaws Rickshaws are cheaper than Taxis, but you end up smelling and breathing in quite a bit of pollution. Not recommended for those with respiratory problems or young children. Fun and being more local though if you take the rickshaws. Ask the price for the trip before getting in. Rickshaws are about 40-90 rupees per trip and the taxis are about 100 - 800 (depends on where you are going and if you look Foreign/Rich). If you want to save some $$, walk out of your hotel area onto a busy street sidewalk to look for taxis or rickshaws (especially if you are staying in a nice hotel).
Don't take the autorickshaw waiting out the front of the hotel. The auto guys waiting in front on the hotel gates are only interested in taking you to places where they receive a further kickback from the store, etc. It's much better to walk a 100 meters and hail an auto.
