Historical Traveller Reviews of Trident Hilton Agra Hotel

An oasis of calm

from noelab
This hotel was a great place to relax and enjoy after visiting the Taj Mahal which was only about 10 minutes away. The layout of the hotel was like a courtyard or square with the rooms around the pool. The rooms were clean and comfortable. India can be a daunting place to visit and it is nice to be able to have an oasis of calm to relax in. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The food at the restaurant was quite enjoyable, although the coffee was always too strong for me. Eventually, I switched to other drinks. My wife gave this hotel a 5 star because of its relaxing effect.

Comfortable Hotel near the Taj Mahal

from skepticatheist2
We stayed at the comfortable Trident Hilton Agra for 1 night in a deluxe pool view room. The room was very good, but it seemed somewhat smaller that an averagle Trident Hilton hotel room. The food at the restaurant was acceptable but not superior. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The swimming pool was nice, but the indoor fitness center was substandard and claustrophobic.

Nice stay

Hilton is not a palace, that´s for sure. But it is a good value for money and has very nice public areas - lobby, restaurant, wonderful kids club and gardens and swimming pool. The room and bathroom are very simple with slippers, but no bathrobes and Crabtree & Evelyn amenities. We had also a big fruit plate and some cookies on arrival, also complimentary bottled water.
This hotel has also a very nice shop with lots of souvenirs, handcraft and books, where the prices are very reasonable (some stuff we bought from Hilton was much more cheaper than for example in Jaipur - exactly the same things!)
We really enjoyed the swimming pool, although there was very many mosquitos and other insects there.

Lovely stay at Hilton Agra

We stayed for 2 nights in a deluxe Garden view room. Very good value for money at $140 per night including breakfast and tax.
The bed was not a double but two twins pushed together and made up as two twins.
Breakfast was limited buffet. Pool bar food was OK but small portions of average quality.
Service fine except for check out when the extras charged in Rupees were converted to US dollars at some appalling exchange rate.

Surprisingly great hotel!!

from nyguy990
The drive through Agra is so chaotic that entering the hotel is absolutely a relief. The lobby/ bar and restaurant are surprisingly modern. The pool is nice. There is a Kids Play area...our two year old really liked the small lake with the swans. And the staff is very very good and will go out of their way to help you. The rooms are of decent size and quite modern. Actually, the inside of the hotel is quite modern....more like a boutique hotel in New York. The exterior is quite modest. If you need anything, just ask and the staff will be very helpful.

The breakfast is good and highly recommended. Overall, much better than the nearby Mughal Sheraton. Only the Amarvillas is better but then its 3 times as expensive and seemed too upscale for us.

Beautiful hotel

My husband and i stayed at this great hotel about a month ago. The staff were all very very friendly. The hotel was so clean and modern. The city of Agra is so messy and busy that the minute you enter the gates of this hotel you feel you are entering a different world. It always smelled like beautiful flowers. The breakfast buffet was great but the dinner wasnt anything special. Right beside the hotel is a great new shopping mall , its not a tourist trap so the prices are great.
I highly recommend this hotel and its so close to the Taj also.

Great Stay

Planned a last minute trip to Agra and went to this hotel based on an earlier review. It is a good location as it is quite close to the Taj Mahal. Rooms are clean and okay. The free buffet breakfast that came with the room rate offered a good spread from cereals, muffins, eggs, and Indian breakfast as well.

Although the hotel look kind of deserted...must be because I arrived at 11pm and headed off to the Taj Mahal next day at sunrise! I'd stay at this hotel again should I ever come back to visit Agra.

It was perfect for me

from pickyconsumer
We would have stayed at the Amarvilas but they wouldn't let our 14-yr old stay in the same room with us even for an extra charge. It was the busy Christmas week and they didn't care to make any exceptions. Not wanting to pay another $600 for the teenager's room, we opted for the Trident (same Oberoi ownership). The Trident gave us a nice comfortable extra cot for a small extra fee. Incidentally the Mughal Sheraton was also unwilling to let our teen stay in the room with us. In retrospect, I am glad we ended up at the Trident.

True, the Trident is not a palace but frankly when you are travelling in India and are seeing Forts, Palaces, or the Taj Mahal during the day, it is nice to come back to a hotel that feels more like 'home' than a palace. The Trident is very comfortable, clean, welcoming, and tranquil. The room was spacious even with the extra cot. The staff is competent and friendly without being intrusive. We ate the buffet lunch and the buffet breakfast and both were surprisingly good. Lots of choices and tasted good too.

All in all, we had a great, hassle-free experience. It was one of our best days in India. We would definitely stay there again.

Not very Indian

from mdryden
Had two nights here during our Golden Triangle tour. Hotel was very clean and tidy with a lovely pool area. The buffet breakfast was excellent and the rooms were fine with exceptionally comfortable only criticism was it's lack of "Indian-ness" The Jewellers had some nice pieces at rather reasonable prices but the massages in the Beauty shop were definitely not up to standard.

Very nice stay at the Hilton Agra

from mckibben
Very nice hotel, with excellent service and an excellent buffet. After traveling around is a relief to stay here.

The hotel doesn't want you to tip its staff (although the staff still accept them regardless except for the one housekeeping person we tried to tip). This is a nice feature of the hotel.

I paid about $150/night . An extra bed was free (two adults with two small children). Even thought you can't book the hotel for two adults/two children, it wans't a problem to put our entire family into one room with a king size bed and a rollaway. Very clean, moden rooms with a refridgerator inside.

Well marked signs so it was pretty easy for our driver to find. Front Desk was very helpful and attentive.

Great value...would definately stay here again.

Top Local Tips for Agra

Industrial sized wet wipes If you are doing the tour of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur and you haven't been to India, nohing will prepare you for what you will see and experience. India is an amazing place but be prepared - take plenty of tissues, only ever drink bottled water of good quality that is sealed, take dettox wipes (lots! - you will use every one of them!) We used high quality and high strength anti mosquito and did't get bitten once although we did see a lot of people with bites. The loos in public places are quite simply terrible and I am not particularly squeemish! You will most likely suffer from an upset tummy - most did on our tour. But you will have the most memorable trip - I enjoyed it all.

The Taj with a Toddler We definitely agree with the guidebooks on this point: get to the Taj early. We decided to visit on the 2nd morning after getting some rest at the hotel overnight. We left our hotel at 6am and arrived at the ticket booth about 6:30am. It was a bit hazy and the photos weren't as nice as those taken after the sun rose and the haze disappeared, but it was cool and the number of tourists not overwhelming --which made the experience much more enjoyable for all. There were sufficient open spaces for our little guy (15 months) to run around. He especially enjoyed taking off his shoes up at the main monument and running around in his socks. Note-guards are somewhat subjective about what you can bring in with you, they allowed us to bring in a small bag (we heard them telling another that their bag was too big) with a bottle of water, formula powder, a diaper and wipes. We saw other parents with strollers-not a bad idea, although there are stairs in some areas. We visited for 2.5 hours.

Plan for more time than you think you may need It always takes more time to get around Agra than you think
