35 people in my group will never visit Jaypee Palace Hotel

18 rooms were reserved for our group. Rooming list was sent months in advance. When our group arrived at 6 PM the keys were not ready. The receptionist started alloting the rooms and as he about to hand over the keys, his supervisor came and struck all the room numbers and alloted other numbers. He went away. The receptionist could not reconcile the rooms alloted by supervisor. He said that our baggages will be in the rooms when we return after dinner. At 10 PM when our group returned to the reception, half the baggages had been misplaced and no one knew where they were. They called more than 14 people including many in our group to find out. By 11 PM 31 members of our group could find their rooms and baggages. It took another one hour to finally locate the remaining baggages. The scene in the restauarant for breakfast was like chat shop, food spilled over on the floor was not swept, tables were not cleaned after guest went away and there was utter chaos. This hotel does not deserve even 3-stars! Beware! This is an overpriced and worst managed hotel in Agra City.

The Jaypee Palace is a large, impressive hotel located a few kilometers from the Taj Mahal outside Agra. It is a convention center, so the facilities are large and spread out. The rooms are of a good size and the facilities available to the guests are varied (pool, four restaurants, spa, gym, etc.) but over-priced, as are the rooms themselves. I might go back but would probably prefer to try either the Sheraton or Trident Hilton for similar or higher quality at a lower price.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Jaypee Palace Hotel And Convention Centre

I am a notorious traveller and have seen quite a bit of the world so far. During my tour through the north of India this was the best hotel. The restaurant served a great variety of excellent food and the staff was very friendly, although there was the usual trouble when paying seperately for your drinks. The spacious rooms were perfectly clean. The only problem was that because of the monkeys ? you could not open the French windows and enjoy the fantastic garden.

Avoid this hotel

from PLoo
We have just returned from an excellent trip to India during which we stayed in 9 different hotels. Of these only the Jaypee Palace in Agra had major problems which other people should be aware of.
We stayed there 8-10 April 2006.

While the room and public areas look to be of reasonably high quality, staying here revealed the problems.
1) Most of the staff we encountered were, at best, unfriendly and, at worst, positively unhelpful. Breakfast was a particular nightmare. The hotel caters for large tour groups and the staff were clearly overworked and poorly trained. Following check-in the person taking us to our room could not initially find the room! After getting help from a bell-boy there were still problems finding the room and eventually discovered that there was an indoor building site opposite the room's door. The staff at the cashier's desk were unbelievably off-hand.
2) The sound proofing between rooms is poor.
3) The beds were very hard.

To be fair, we did have a very pleasant dinner in their specialist Indian food restaurant with good quality food and helpful service. However, if you are looking for a good five-star hotel in Agra, try elsewhere (unless this one gives you a really good price). In fact the Sheraton, though older and less impressive, is a better bet - we have stayed there before without incident and had a good dinner there this time.

Bizarre Moghul Fantasy!

from Nick0
Nothing quite prepares you for arriving here at night - floodlit pools, fountains, trees etc. Incredible replicas of Moghul courtyards. All slightly let down by miles of echoing marble halls, and dull (if vast) rooms. Beds hard side of firm!

Excellent pool, efficient service. Food in the Spice Restaurant excellent; the others were modern and overlit. Location is first rate.

Aimed at the Conference crowd and Groups, but doesn't stop independent travellers from enjoying some peace and luxury (rare in Agra!).

5 star luxury

from Japes
My wife and I stayed in the Jaypee Palace on the 16/17th April 2006 which was towards the back end of the tourist season in Agra. As such the hotel was not that busy. Within 5 minutes of walking through the lobby we had checked in and were sat in our well appointed rooms. The hotel grounds were beautifully tendered and were easy to navigate around. We ate in the 24 hour coffee shop and the food was delicious and the service impeccable. The Jaypee palace was by far the best hotel we stayed in whilst in India and we would recommend it to anyone.

Very nice hotel

This hotel is really well kept and clean. There are beautiful gardens all around and the staff are very professional. Will definitely recommend this hotel.

s fine but----

from ianmcl
We stayed here for one night when visiting the Taj Mahal during a 3 week stay in India. The Hotel is quite glitzy with international standard rooms, nice grounds, swimming pool etc. However the food is bland in the main restaurant and probably determined by the requirements of large tour operators.Despite being a buffet, service in getting drinks and then signing the bill was slow. Not being in large group seemed to confuse the staff. However the alarming thing to see wasfire doors firmly chained and padlocked at night,'for security' we were told when we expressed concern. In short fine for one night to see the wonderful Taj Mahal

ve stayed in India.

The Taj Mahal was breathtaking. But the city of Agra was ...well....exacty like what the previous reviewer said!
My family and I however found the Jaypee Palace to be exceptionally good value. The check in was quick and the staffs helpful. The standard rooms that we got were huge and the furniture & fittings were new.Everything worked. To our surprise we got adjoining rooms as requested. This was the only hotel(out of 6) during our 2 week Indian tour which complied to this request (although in all the bookings were made and confirmed and paid months beforehand).
The only grouse were the restaurants price.Though the food was good the price was exorbitant. We should have known this because as we sat down for dinner the place was almost deserted.

Good to hide in from the actual city of Agra!

from Bukwaas
Although the Taj Mahal is beautiful and worth a trip, avoid the city of Agra by all means. Disgustingly filthy and overcrowded, with tonnes of pollution!

Hotel was clean. As it was so cold when we went, they were putting up extra windows in the main bridge walkway to protect residents from the elements. Check in process is very poorly organized; we waited 20 minutes in a line after being told to go to that particular desk, only to be told that the reception was elsewhere! Cashier desk is also overwhelmed, as so many tour groups stop through the hotel.

Gym was amazing, very well equipped for a nice full workout. Hotel food was OK, although the ambience was great at one of the restaurants (where ghazal singers entertained the audience). The hotel is setup like a maze, so is hard to navigate and has great distances to walk to get around.

nice hotel!

from jnavani
We stayed at Jaypee Palace the night before seeing the Taj. They were polite, and gave us free coupons for drinks and to play games in their arcade and bowling alley. Rooms were nice, clean. I did think the temperature in the hotel room was cold, so ask for extra blankets! I got hot water and enjoyed a beautiful continental breakfast buffet the next morning! So, I would consider it a good hotel to stay at!

Very Average

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed two nights in December as part of a vacation, the sprawling public grounds and facade of hotel looked nice and appeared promising but my room was disappointing, although clean. Bathroom servicable but not properly finished and rather weathered looking. Reception area was a bit chaotic during check in and it also took a long time to check out, as the hotel is popular with big tour groups. You may be disappointed if you are looking for a luxurious hotel and are in need of some pampering. More suited for families and large tour groups.

Top Local Tips for Agra

Agra cold at dawn in Winter We got up at dawn to visit the Taj Mahal and were surprised at how cold it was.

No deals in sight. Everyone is owned by a shop keeper, no advice is honest.

Do not be stung!! If on a tour, refuse to enter the shops suggested by the guide or driver
