Charming cottages

from loubelia
My husband and I just returned from 2 weeks in Fiji, the last 5 days of which were at Coconut Grove. Coconut Grove was by far the best of the 3 resorts. It's a small resort and Ronna and her wonderful staff did an excellent job of making us feel at home. We got to spend Thanksgiving with them and the dinner had all the traditional elements. We had the Banana Bure right on the beach. As great as the accomodations are, the highlight of the stay is the food. We ate the best food we had in Fiji, all prepared with love by her staff, comparing favorably to the best restaurants in Los Angeles, our home. While my husband enjoyed the diving, I got to make samosas with Bimla and Vina! When we left, the staff seemed genuinely sad at our departure. I highly recommend this resort.

A very Special Place

We had a wonderful two week stay at the Coconut Grove. We were well taken care of -- food versatile and delicious, staff very accomodating and nurturing, the view was awesome and relaxing. We will look to return for a restful repeat.

We just recently returned from 2 beautiful weeks at Coconut Grove in Taveuni Island, Fiji. I can truly say it was a "trip of a lifetime". Ronna and her staff went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable. I can't say enough about the food at the resort. We included 2 meals a day when we planned our trip and never tired of the selections. Great fresh fish, fruit shakes were the best I have had, and the mashed potatoes were exceptional. All the food was always fresh and presented in a "5 Star" manner.

I can't say enough about our stay -- the "Band Boys" played their beautiful island music and we were totaly mesmerized.

When it was time for us to leave we felt we were leaving part of our family behind. Great place and great staff. We are planning another trip to the island in the next few months.

Your Taveuni destination!

Staying at Coconut grove was a wonderful experience. We spent 8 nights at this resort and loved it all. Ronna
(the owner) and the staff are very caring and will make your stay exceptional. They help you everyday in all your plans. The restaurant is very good, the food is great and the servers will always go out of there way to make it perfect. The island culture is brought to you, make sure to attend when " Pedro and the Boys" are playing.

Had a nice stay - food was great!

Just got back into the States after a 2 weeks stay in Fiji, 1 of which we spent at Coconut Grove. We had a great time, enjoyed the staff, rooms, etc. The beach is wonderful, and the snorkeling GREAT! We would go back again given the chance. Ronna and her girls are great. Would send anyone there!

Relaxation in Paradise

from Mad_about_Orchids
The “Coconut Grove Beachfront Cottages” are the best place to stay on Taveuni if you want all of the amenities of a large resort, but also want to relax and just enjoy your time in paradise. The friendly staff is incredible! They seem to instinctively know if you just want to relax on their beach and do absolutely nothing, or if you can't sit still for a moment and want to see the sights. They are more than happy to make all the arrangements including personal guides and taxis for days full with non-stop activities. They even packed lunch for us on those busy days when we went on treks. We really enjoyed the tasty food on their varied menu. That is one of our most favorite treats when we travel is to enjoy fine dining paired with fine wine. You will be surprised as we were at their expertise in delicious food and wine. The view from the restaurant veranda is awesome! We will definitely be returning to the Coconut Grove Beachfront Cottages on our next stay in Taveuni!

The place to stay at in Taveuni!

from bebopluvr
Ronna runs a beautiful resort on a nice beach in Taveuni. It's by far the nicest hotel in it's price range. The food is among the best on the island, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the staff is fantastic.

Taveuni is a remote place, but the staff will try to help in any situation. My wife developed a migraine and was given OTC medicine by the chef that really helped. Ronna and the staff really care about their guests' comfort. Also, the hotel has the best deals on the island on souvenirs (I was there for 2 weeks, enough time to check out the entire island).

The beach is nice, with some of the best snorkeling on Taveuni (although scuba diving is the real point of coming here).

My only caveat -- this place is small and intimate. No one is intrusive, but it's hard to remain totally anonymous when there are only three bures.

incredible value, great staff, fabulously romantic

my wife and i will always remember our time at coconut grove. this place was so unique, the staff was so wonderful, and the island so beautiful that we would love to be able to go back whenever we can.

at coconut grove you get your own cottage with plenty of privacy and comfort (would not recommend the one room in the main house, as it's near the kitchen). get the meal plan at the resort as there really aren't many options on the island, and the food there is incredible. You get to eat out on the deck with a great view of the ocean. It's a very nice, small resort -- no more than 8 or so people at any one time.

incredibly relaxing place to spend some time and the owner is well connected on the island so she can plan all kinds of different things for you to do -- bird watching, boat rides, hiking, etc. the hotel is on the main road around the island so you can go for nice walks yourself at your leisure -- you are very safe there and the locals are as nice as you can imagine. our bure had its own hammock out front which was the highlight of the trip -- for my wife it was the massages (she had two!).

the staff is very accomodating. they were happy to deliver our breakfasts to our bure and really do anything we asked.

only negative things I would say is that the beach is not great for much besides walking or laying out (cloudy water), and there are big dogs everywhere on this island so if you aren't comfortable around animals this probably isn't your place. I guess people have them for their own security, but it's not the most pleasant thing to run into on a walk. The owner has a german shephard, generally a very sweet dog, but it snapped at us once or twice which spooked us a little bit. But if you don't mind animals, it really isn't anything to worry about. A really great place that I would go back to without hesitation!!

Sunrise on the veranda

from Doug_in_SM

After a long day of traveling, arriving at Coconut Grove was like stepping into an oasis. From the welcome glass of fresh juice through our departure, we were well taken care of each day. Coconut Grove is for travelers who are looking for a small, intimate setting where you feel like you are part of the family, but not for those who want to be served 24/7. The desk closes for a few hours in the afternoon and again after dinner, allowing the staff to have time with their families. That being said, any request we had was taken care of immediately.

The Papaya Bure is small but comfortable, and the access to the outdoor amenities makes it feel larger. One of our favorite times of day was waking up with the sunrise and sipping coffee on the veranda. Each evening the staff provided us with a thermos of fabulous coffee that really did stay hot overnight. And then there was the food... We highly recommend the Saturday night buffet and you must try Bimla's papaya jam at breakfast.

Ronna and staff do a wonderful job at helping the guests feel part of the island – more so than at other resorts. From encouraging the guests to try other restaurants on the island, to arranging for us to attend a traditional Fijian feast as part of a school fund raiser, we were truly able to experience the local Fijian culture.

Vinaka to everyone at Coconut Grove for a wonderful vacation!

PS. When making your reservations, if Ronna suggests that you may want to stay for more than four nights, you should definitely listen to her. We won't make that mistake again.

Perfect Getaway Haven with Great food!

from NiniBroccolini
I had been visiting my sister who lives on Taveuni and on her advise, we stopped in for lunch. It is in a beautiful position on the Island, with stunning views of two small islands, clearly visable from the resturant verandah. The hospitality and the food were superb, to say the least! The owner has so much spunk and verve- her energy and enthuiasm toward the community is awesome and her staff are friendly and efficient. I will be returning to Taveuni again in the not so distant future and will plan to stay over at Coconut Grove before continuing the journey south.
