EXTRA TIPS! Make sure you take Aeroguard and Sunscreen with you as these are essential in surviving Fiji. It is a tropical climate so there are lots of bugs, mainly mosquitos, and the sun is strong! The Fijians appreciate a smile and a bula (hello) and a Vinaka (thank you) from the tourists. You will get a lot more out of your holiday in Fiji if you respect the local culture and people - Fijians are very welcoming and friendly people. Tipping is not expected but my friends and I would give staff tips as the average wage in Fiji is quite low. The staff at Tanoa were brilliant and deserved all the tips we gave to them. It is best to accept Nadi for what it is and see the best in it - it is a little poorer than what Im used to but the people make up for everything. Dont let anyone rip you off - make payment arrangements before you get in a taxi. My friends and I got ripped off by ALOT. Sample some local foods - beautiful.

Be Wary of traders hounding you! Just say NO. You get mighty sick of prople asking you to come into their shop(all half price today!!) - and some say their stuff is the real fijian stuff etc. The clothes shops have a huge amt of staff in them so quite daunting when you are followed continuously. They sell knock offs of Billabong, O'Neill, Quiksilver etc. Be careful how you wash these as ours shrunk!! You get very hot and grumpy in a short space of time! Watch you don't stand on the Indian women and their babies sitting on the footpath begging. The poverty here is huge. If you can take a local bus into the back roads then do this as fantastic tour(for 65c). Our bus from Denarau to Nadi was a real eye opener.
