t Work

from FarAwayTraveler
The Grounds are nice. The staff is great. So what's not to like? Much of the infrastructure at the Mocambo is old. The first room I checked into had an air conditioner that didn't work. They moved me to another room that cooled, but barely. At first I wondered if the air conditioning units dated from the Roman period, but the 1970's is more likely. Thankfully they supplied me with a fan. But for this type of resort, it is unacceptable.

The room: large. Comfortable bed. The furniture is a bit dated. Balcony with a great view. A TV with about 5 channels. The bathroom is big. My second room had a separate shower and bath.

The employees are very nice and will go out of their way to help you.

Food: overpriced, nothing special.

Fiji is humid. Unless you like it warm, I'd recommend staying somewhere else.

A very pleasant surprise

from Donald3
After going to four hotels in two days we were almost desperate to find a hotel that suited our needs. Both my mother and I are disabled. This, the Mocambo could do, (a room within 50 metres of the dining room and on the same level). The hotel is one of the older ones which means that there are maintenance issues, but as soon as you report a fault a tradesman comes and fixes it. The service is exceptionally good and the menu varied.

We would definately stay there again.

Great hotel near airport

from cdd101
We booked this hotel by chance the night before arriving in Fiji. We were collected at the airport with the hotels free pick up. We arrived late and were told that we were going to be up graded to the hotels deluxe room. Excellent room with views over the hotel's small golf course. Swimming pool very quiet. Good reasonablely priced restaurant. Although this is not the best location or views that Fiji has to offer, it's an excellent choice to stop when flying in or out of Nadi. We planned one night there and stayed for three.

t find anywhere else then.....

Like most people who have reviewed this hotel we were here for one night in order to save us getting up too early for our flight home. Upon arrival, very friendly staff, dealt with us quickly....

The room was clean, although I agree with other reviews in that I thought the sheets weren't cleaned between guests, they were stained and torn in areas. Basic set up in room, and in great need of updating. Rooms are not sound proofed which we found out when listening to people in the next room talking. Great views of the hills and a good golf course. Pool looked in need of a tidy up (as did everywhere else). Good little shops inside the complex but the dining area seemed quite random to us and the food was definitely below average to what we had experience from the rest of fiji.

It did seem to suit a senior group more than any other group and I would only ever recommend this hotel for a one night stop but only if you really had to.

Good for Seniors

We stayed here when we did a Coach Tour of Fiji recently.
The staff were just lovely. In particular Henry who greeted us each morning at breakfast was a delight. The pool was nice to come home to in the afternoons. Rooms are clean and tidy and adequate and this place has been taken over by Accor Hotels and is going to be turned into a Novotel soon. For us seniors we liked that it was small and friendly and the architecture was Fijian in style so we really felt we were in Fiji.

Towards the end of a quick round-the-world tour just back from a cruise round the Yasawa's, I had the ultimate holiday romance at the Mocambo - never to be forgotten and the golf was good too! Long cherish those fond memories.

t Stay Here if you need to transfer to an island

from BJB1945
This hotel is grim. It has the potential to be quite good, with its garden setting and being close to the airport. We had been booked by our agent for a one night stay before transferring to Malolo Island Resort. The room smelled musty and damp. However, it was clean, and the bathroom was large. The buffet breakfast was so poor, we didn't bother. The staff in reception were standing around looking bored whilst we waited for our booked transfer. We were told it was due at 11.09 a.m. At 10.50 a bus drove up, slowed down and drove away again. At 11.20 a.m. my husband asked one of the staff about our transfer and was told that the bus had been it and we had missed it! We were sitting by the doors, in front of the Reception Desk with our luggage, being watched by the Reception Staff. We were also the only people there! We asked them to call a taxi, as otherwise we would have missed our boat transfer and also whether they were prepared to pay for the taxi. Of course, they weren't, although we had already paid for the transfer. The taxi driver told us he is always picking up people from the Mocambo who have missed their transfers. Never again.

Best staff service ever.

The staff were the best, so friendly and helpful. Only one suggestion, new pillows.
Air-con needed attention too.

change the bed sheets please

from rosebourke
filthy place, bed sheets had stains all over it.. the pillows smelt like the last guests... I now can assume that they cut corners and do not actually even change the sheets between guests,, they just make the beds. The bar size fridge was filfty and had milk stains splashed all over the door. An absolute ghost town, i would recommend sleeping on the side of the road with your kids than staying at this place!!!

musty rooms, bad service, bad restaurant

from Saraheli
We stayed there with a group of 45 in January 2006. As sponsors of the group, we had a "better room" than the other travelers. The room had the most horrible and strong musty smell we had ever experienced. We could not stay in the room except to shower -- and to sleep briefly. Others in our group had slumpy low beds. And still others had an incredible amount of black-colored mold all over their showers.

The restaurant was un-airconditioned and food choices were slim -- as they were "out of chicken" and "out of beef." Their breakfast buffet was the most pitiful we had experienced ever in Fiji, New Zealand, and Australia.

The pool and its atmosphere were rather plain and uninspiring... like something from a side highway in Nebraska... not at all like the others we found along the tropics.

When we return in a year, we will go back to the Tanoa.

Top Local Tips for Nadi

Fiji time! Allow plenty of time when travelling to & from Nadi as the locals are on "Fiji time" & you will most likely be later than your timetable says. This is no big deal though & all part of the relaxing holiday in Fiji. You just need to go with it or travel earlier.

Don't stay too long - get to the Islands! By all means allow a few hours to see Nadi, then get out to the Islands as quick as you can. Any more than a day on the mainland is wasted - the real Fiji is out there on the Islands.

Try dining out Try some of the local *decent looking* restuarants..or ask the ex- pats where they eat.We had some wonderful meals away from the hotel.Drink only bottled/sealed water tho just to be sure of health.
