In the morning a tropical breakfast was delivered to the room as part of the welcome, after that it was our first chance to see the surrounds in daylight. Puiakura Reef Lodge has well kept gardens and grounds and a lovely pool. We didn't use the pool much as the most pristine beach was right across the road. Most days we had it all to ourselves. Such clear water and an enormous amount of tropical fish so it was great for snorkelling.
Sue has a background on the travel industry and it really showed. She was only to happy to organise motorcycle rental (the only way to get around in my opinion), tours and resturant recommendations. One suggestion Sue made was an Island night at the Staircase Bar in town, it was fantastic, food was great and the entertainment was provided by a local dance/drum troupe.
We only had four days on Rarotonga as it was between business trips, but we will definitely return, next time I will spend more time doing nothing on the most perfect beach in the world.
Highly recommended to all

Top Local Tips for Rarotonga
island bus You can hire a scooter (most people do) but with no crash helmets (but I believe this will change soon), not sure it's that safe and you hear some terrible stories of spoiled holidays from pople who have come off. But the island bus is very good. Buy a 10 ticket deal (just ask when you get on and pay the driver) 2 buses go round the island, 1 clockwise , 1 antclockwise, every hour and you can flag it down, and ask the driver to stop anywhere. It's a reat way to get around as there is basically just the one roadround the island and these buses cover it all.
Island Night at the Staircase We were reccommended to go to the Staircase Island Night because we had teenage children. It was a smaller group performing but our children loved it because the performing group was made up also of teenage children. Great night, great value for a family and great food and entertainment
Tamarind House For stunning seafood, beautiful surroundings and a lovely evening check out this wonderful restaurant.
