The official Xinjiang antiquities store in Urumqi We were told that there was only one state-run antiquities shop in Urumqi and after hours of looking at wind-up pink plastic pig flashlights in local markets, begged to be taken there. It's located on the third floor of a building housing a pharmacy on the ground floor, and a bridal salon and hairdresser on the second, but does have some "older" objects for sale that we didn't see elsewhere in the city. Prices were fixed and not very competitive but if your money is burning a hole in your pocket and you aren't interested in fur belly warmers, flashlights, rhinestone jewelry or polished stones, you might give this shop a try.
