Check-in took 40 minutes.

Our room, a "deluxe ocean view room" was more a 2-star than a 5-star room. Very uncomfortably furnished & quite dirty, but still 5-star price. Lucky we were able to upgrade to a "grand deluxe ocean view room" for additional 300RMB per night. Well, must say that the new room was very nice indeed.

The service was very poor in the whole resort. There is hardly any English speaking staff and waiting times are long.

We suffered a heavy food poisoning after eating at the beach bar. The medical support was terrible and we even had to pay for the dry toast - the only food we were able to eat for days.

If you are looking for a relaxing, 5-star holiday, DON'T choose this resort!!

Top Local Tips for Sanya City

Visit Haikou You can get a bus from Sanya to the island's capital, Haikou. This is actually a very comfortable air-conditioned coach & takes just over 3 hours. The views through the centre of the island are great & give you a real insight into life away from the main tourist areas & towns. Haikou itself is a rapidly developing town. It's worth a visit & has 3 five star hotels, although the beach here isn't as nice as the Sanya / Yalong bay area.

Disabled access The disabled accessibility at the Gloria hotel is not up to standard. After injuring my foot prior to coming here I was on crutches during my stay and the diabled access was really brought to my attention. I found that there are steps everywhere and no way to get around them- especially to the beach and the pool. Luckily I can climb stairs but I did wonder what would have happened had I been in a wheelchair.

Getting around on bus Yalong Bay is beautiful but quite a distance from the major attractions and shopping at Sanya City. Local buses are rather convenient and inexpensive. From Yalong Bay, there are buses going all the way to Nanshan Dongtian Park, the route also includes Sanya City, Daidonghai and "End of the Earth" The bus doesn't just stop at regular bus stop, they stop whenever you flag them down. It might be a bit difficult if you don't read Chinese, but you can always read the route (english translation is available) at the bus stop, decide where you are going and have someone write down the name for you on a piece of paper and show the driver. It is quite an experience to ride the bus vs a private car.
