A great bus ride with stunning scenery to an un-touristy spot Having been to Hong Kong many times, this time we found a great bus ride with stunning scenery. We took the MTR to a station on Hong Kong Island from where we caught a bus to Shek O, a beach on a headland east of Stanley. The bus ride scenery was worth the half hour trip alone! After leaving the city, the double-decker bus climbed higher and higher up where we drove between mountains overlooking the coastline. The vegetation beside us was thick, jungle-like with the ocean, small coves and bays way down below. When we arrived at Shek O, this small village is just like old China with Thai and Chinese cafes and restaurants lining the main and back streets, some even in homes. Taking the road to the left from the village up a steep hill, we arrived on a hilltop with a spectacular view of the ocean and beach below. A picnic area and walking paths around a small point with a beach were down some steps. This is an undiscovered gem in Hong Kong, still unspoilt and one only locals know.

Breakfast was too limited. There's a super indonesian restaurant on the same street and many other possibilities. A hotel my family and I will return to. Definitely.
