Top Local Tips for Hong Kong

The Peak Make sure you make the effort to go up "the peak" (Victoria Peak). I would recommend going before sunset so you can watch the changes as the sun goes down. Get a taxi if the cable car is too busy, it dirt cheap. We ate at Cafe Deco. Food was fantastic (have the ribs), but we were lucky to get a table with a good view, so if you fancy that I would book a table.

Taxis to cross harbour tunnel The red taxis in Hong Kong can go anywhere but some are based on Hong Kong Island and some based in Kowloon. Many taxi drivers prefer to drive where they are more familiar with the roads. They queue up on certain street, usually with their "For Hire" meter sign near the dashboard covered. Locals know these taxis are waiting to pick up passengers with destinations across the harbour. Tunnel fees are normally charged as a round trip when you take a taxi to cross harbour, but the taxis in these queues will only charge you one way tunnel fee. It is a convenience for both drivers and passengers. Some drivers don't like to queue and will return to their base with no customer. As a rule, taxi drivers are not allowed to choose passengers based on destinations, therefore most of these queues are not labeled. One well known queue of cross harbour taxis in TST is located along Observatory Road, between Chatham Road and Kimberly Road. These are "Hong Kong Island" taxis wishing to go back
