The hotel was quite nice if one is interested in Lantau island. Not the right place to stay for downtown Hong Kong. It's too far away. Nice hiking in the area and quiet beaches.

Top Local Tips for Hong Kong

Get an Octopus Card The easiest way to get around Hong Kong is by their great (and affordable) public transportion system. As soon as you arrive to a transportation station and buy the Octopus card, it's good for the buses, ferries, subway, and many other things. It's much more convenient than digging in your pocket for exact change...just pass it over the card reader when you get on and it tells you how much the fare is and what your balance is. When you're running low just re-load the card at any of the stations. PS: If you won't be back to Hong Kong in a long time don't forget to get your balance refunded to you (less a $7HKD fee) at any of the main stations.

Kowloon They accost you in the street constantly to buy suits, and computer stores overcharge by 4 or 5 times and eventually will bring the price down to about twice retail in NZ! Better shopping in Hongkong city which has reasonable marked prices.

Walks Go for a walk up the mountain behind the hotel and through the backstreets.
