Top Local Tips for Hong Kong

Beware of Nathan Road Stores (Camera Rip-off) We wanted to buy a Canon 40D in one of the shops in Nathan Road. BIG MISTAKE! If we did our research in TripAdvisor before even daring to venture into that road, we would have known that it was notorious for being a scamming district. To cut the long story short, we found out when we got back to the hotel that they gave us a Canon 400D, which costs half the price of a Canon 40D. We tried to return it but the manager refused to do so and was even very rude to us. TIP: If this happens to you GO TO THE POLICE. We went to the police station, also on Nathan Road. While we were there, the store called the police station to tell them that we can come back to the store and they will void the sale if we just return the camera. They did void the sale but there was no police report recorded in the station. Countless of tourists are being victimized and the incidents are not recorded.

Hong Kong Markets Definitely hit the 3 main markets of Hong Kong. Stanley is the one furthest from the city center and definitely the most "touristy". The ride to the market (take a city bus, either 6A or 6X) and enjoy the views. The Temple Street (or Night Market) is an excellent source for souvenirs and the like (be prepared to bargain). The "Ladies Market" is also an excellent venue for trinkets and such.

Definitely a shopper's paradise Come with an empty suitcase or a spare bag, because you'll definitely find heaps of stuff to buy!
