Taxis - Great way to get around! I had no idea that taxis were so cheap in Hong Kong! It's definitely worth considering as the rates start out at $15HKD (equivalent to about $2.00 CDN) for the first 2 km, which if you're traveling a short distance is probably all you'll have to pay.

Public transportation (excl. taxis) is the way to go Buy an octopus card and travel around Hong Kong in their efficient MTR system, tramways and Star Ferry. Cross-harbour journeys should be made on the Star Ferry (HKD1.70 - HKD2.20 one-way) for a unique and affordable experience. When you're on Hong Kong Island, make sure you try out the tramway. It is especially good when it comes to exploring the western side of the island (e.g. the Dried Seafood street). Do not take the taxis unless you have to get to a place urgently as their taxis are one of the most expensive in the region.

You have feet Hong Kong is safe and easy to walk around. Get a good map and go. Use the MTR and buses they are cheap and efficiant. Dont get travel agents to pay for airport transfers the rail system if fast clean and reliable, and only costs a fraction of a taxi.
