Top Local Tips for Hong Kong

MTR Doors Close Automatically When travelling with Family......if you leave it to late to all get on, don't, the next one is only minutes away. Our teenage daughter got on first and the door shut between us and away she went!!! Fortunately we communicated through the glass that we would meet her at Mongkok stop where we were heading a short way away. 3 minutes later we got on and too our relief she was waiting there for us, but in a strage city this can freak you out.

Octopus Octopus cards are a great way of getting around and save the need to pay for ferries/busses/MTR etc. with coins. You charget it up and what you don't use you get refunded - easy!

Public Transport during peak hours If you are travelling to Mongkok, Tsim Sha Tsui or to Hong Kong Island during the morning (before 9am) or evening (around 6pm to 8.30pm), do avoid using taxi or bus. The traffic is terrible. If you choose to take a MTR or walk (or Ferry if you are going to HK Island), you might just reach your destination earlier than taking a taxi or bus.
