Top Local Tips for Hong Kong

MTR When in HongKong, the MTR is the best way to travel around. It's very convenient, fast and affordable. They also offer a tourist pass you could use your entire stay in HK.

Do not go on organised tours All tours can be done by yourself using the trains, trams and buses. Do not go on organised tours they are expensive and cheesy. Definately have a cuppa at a traditional tea shop. Taking the peak tram at night or taking the star ferry are the most affordable and nicest way to see Hong Kong city lights. Do not go on the "buffet dinner" boat trip to see the symphony of lights it is absolutely horrible in so many ways

Transport Take the public bus from the airport (HK$32) to Nathan Rd (Mong Kok Area) then a cab to the hotel. Should cost a total of about HK$60. The bus ride is much more scenic from the airport since the MRT is underground most of the way. The scenery with all the bridges joining the islands is outstanding! Do buy an OCTOPUS card at the airport because you can use this on trains and buses and save yourself a lot of hastle. You get a refund when you hand the card back on departure. Go to the trouble of studying the bus routes as this is also very convenient and sometimes quicker than the MRT, depending on where you want to be. For departure, with no luggage, walk to Nathan Rd.and take the public bus back to the airport - HK$32 - (I think it was no. 21 or something like that) or book the airport shuttle bus at the hotel for HK$90 when you have luggage. Very convenient.
