Top Local Tips for Hangzhou
Hangzhou is great Go to Hangzhou, especially in April/May, the place is great especially the lake trips and seeing the tea fields and the Pagodas.
Water and food Don't loose time ! In Hangzhou most of the water served in restaurants (I don't speak about street food restaurants !) comes from the bottle... You can drink it without trouble ! So did the wohle family without any trouble ! Actually you should be more cautious when you eat salad and tomatoes than for a glass of water... They don't use bottled water to wash your salad !!!
Great food in Hangzhou My company has marketing people in each of the major cities. Their job is to help meet companies and government officials so needless to say, they know where to eat. These were the recommendations from the lady in Hangzhou who is also a native of the city. Kui Yuan Guan's is one of the oldest restaurants in Hangzhou and serves delicious noodles. Try the one with shrimp and eel. Some of the best I've eaten in China. A good choice for lunch and with two locations. Also eat at Louwailou which is on Solitary Island on the lake. You need to take a cab out there but they all know Louwailou (say low-why-low). The local specialties are shown in pictures on the menu which is both in Chinese and English. There are three main rooms, two downstairs and one upstairs but they're all the same. Remember, they stop serving at 8PM so don't be late! Hong Ni Garden is a bit harder to find but again, close to the Sofitel. Again, local food and the menu has pictures and English translations.
