Terrible Staff, Terrible Food

First off, the manager is not aware that his biased behavior towards other guests are noticed. I witnessed a very unconventional rude reaction to a guest who was asking about food for some performers. I later approached this young man and he apparently said it was not of importance. Later that evening while enjoying the live performances in the dining room, I was very sick from what I believe was the shrimp. I was sick for the next 3 days. There is no reason to disappoint yourself by staying here. The decor. is nothing special. I eventually relocated to the Kempinski.

Top Local Tips for Chengdu

Shopping for Souveniers I found the shopping was cheaper in Chengdu than Beijing (except at the real touristy places) and there wasn't the hard sell that we went through at Beijing.

Ginat Panda Reserve Do not miss a visit to the Giant Panda Reserve. It can be easily reached by taxi from Chendu (about 30 mins ride). Get there by 9.00am when the Pandas are being fed before they go back to their other favourite pastime of sleeping. If you need a guide u can easily get one once inside.

Chengdu Taxis There are lots of taxis and they are relatively cheap. Most of the drivers only speak Chinese so take a card from the hotel you are staying at and have an idea where you are going in terms of what is near. Many hotels have Chinese names that are totally different to the English one - the Chengdu Crowne Plaze was original the Happy Valley Hotel and the drivers still call it that. To help you can download a picture such as a JPEG that has the hotels details on it including Chinese name and Address. You can then email this to your PDA, phone or Blackberry and show it to the driver. If you are going to an address find an adjacent hotel or landmark and download the JPEG as a contingency. Also place the hotel concierges number into your phone and discuss with them where you are going.
