Top Local Tips for Chengdu
Getting to the pandas My hotel (the Prime) tried to get me to take a hotel car for 300 RMB for a half day to get to the Giant Panda Breeding Research Center, about 10 km north of central Chengdu. You won't be able to get a taxi back, they said. Don't fall for it. I was fortunate to find another English-speaking guest who wanted to go. The taxi was 29 RMB going, and we got a car for 35 RMB coming back. The panda station is fantastic, and especially don't miss the lesser (red) pandas, they are too cute for words.
