Personal driver in Beijing We hired a car to meet the four of us at the airport and transport us to our hotel near Tiananmen Square. It cost 200 RMB, which seems like a great deal vs the 120RMB others paid to surf the ghost taxi drivers trying to usher you into their cab and then argue with the real taxi drivers when they left the airport as to the rate. We also used the same driver to take us to the Great Wall and Ming Tombs so that we could sightsee on our schedule and not have to visit 3 or 4 shopping outlets + the much complained about lunch on those tours. John worked for a US company for years and visited the US often, so he's got a good command of the language.

Market Shopping Bargain very hard and persist, even if you don't speak mandarin, you will get close to your price!

Water If you stay in any ofthe 4 or 5star western/european style hotels, you don't have to worry about the water quality in the hotel. It's safe to brush your teeth with the hotel water. Plus, these hotels generally provide complimentary bottled per day.
