Top Local Tips for Beijing
Outside of Beijing This hotel is an hour plus outside of Beijing. If you are looking for urban adventure you will not find it here. It is in the countryside and is very quiet. Good for jet lag recovery. The walk to the Great wall is perilous to elderly and is not for those who can not climb a steep hill for about a mile (or less) The hotel will arrange a car from PEK for about $130 US. Thats your best bet.
Things to do in Beijing I've lived in Beijing for 10 months- my favourite things so far are: Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven (for people-watching), exercise parks (esp. Temple of Heaven and Ritan Park), 798 Art District in Dashanzi, hutongs around Nanluoguxiang, the parks (Beihai, Jingshan for it's views of Forbidden City, Ritan Park), visiting the Wall out of season, brunch at the Westin hotel on a Sunday, jaozi dumplings from a local shop, spicy hand-pulled noodles, frozen raspberry margarita from the Saddle Bar, giant pizza from the Kro's Nest
