Can you drink the water? We read in many places that the tap water was not safe to drink. At our hotel we were told it was up to us. I boiled some tap water in our room kettle, and apart from tasting very chemically, I had no problems. The people of the floating village use the muddy river water for everything from drinking and washing to sewerage, and they don't get sick. Our guide grew up on the river and said that he used to drink the river water, but after years in the city his stomach is no longer used to it and it now makes him sick. Bottled water is readily and cheaply available.
