Historical Traveller Reviews of Rydges Perth Hotel

Great hotel

from Little Jenny
We stayed here for four nights in October 2007. Our room was excellent with two kingsize beds and a great view over the city. The hotel is very central. We used the room service and the CBD restaurant and they were both very good. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Enjoyed our Stay

from KushLondon
I loved the location of the hotel- right in the heart of the city close to all the Shops and good restaurants.
The room's were nice, comfortable and large though somewhat inconsistent. My colleagues and myself all had Executive King rooms but mine was much smaller than their's. However this is a minor issue.
At S$25 the breakfast is very expensive for the variety of food offered. I would suggest offering items such as fresh pancakes and french toast for example rather than the usually dull offering's.
I would also like to commend Luke at the front desk- he was polite and very helpful.
Overall I would stay here again.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your kind comments regarding your stay and especially, for recognising Luke at Reception. I will certainly pass on your feedback and I am sure he will be very pleased.
We appreciate your constructive feedback regarding breakfast, it is quite timely. Our new Executive Chef is currently reviewing the breakfast offering and we will incorporate your suggestions into our review.
I look forward to welcoming you back to Rydges Perth in the future.

Top service without being stuffy

from DeSpanish
This hotel was lovely and accommodating from the start. The personnel were quick to help and make you feel comfortable. The location was fabulous and centrally located. The beds are so comfortable; they tempt you to stay in! Oh, and a terry robe! It was heaven. This is a first class, wonderful hotel.

The Internet is expensive. No WiFi and costs range from $11 per hour to $22 per day.
The restaurant is also pricey, $25 for breakfast. Food in Australia is pricey as are the cabs. There is a market on Hay Street where you can purchase some groceries to store in your fridge at the hotel if you need to budget yourself.

Additionally, you must visit Kings Park! I took a morning run there and it truly was one of the most beautiful runs I have ever taken. If you don't run, walk and enjoy. The birds, the flora, and the views were stunning. The hotel staff was helpful with their directions, and highly recommended the park.

Really good experience

from TravellingWilbarry
Stop over from JHB, South Africa to Melbourne and Sydney.
Travel agent who booked our flights suggested breaking the trip into 2 parts. I had booked hotel on the internet AUD 140 for superior queen room. Great welcome at the Rydges after a long (10hr) journey. I'd requested an early check-in when I booked, but was told they could not guarantee it. I was anxious since we only had one day in Perth & were arriving at 9am - so didn't want to hang around knackered until 2pm ! We were however very fortunate and were checked in as soon as we arrived and there was no issues nor wait at all.
Room and bathrom were spacious, clean and good quality decor & furnishings. Just what the doctor ordered. Room faced the city not the river but since we were only spending one night it wasn't a big deal. Freshened up and had a good nap - headed out on a Swan River cruise at lunch time to Fremantle. Trains were cancelled and took a complimentary bus service back to town. Quite fun actually - struck by the friendly and accommodating people. Will stay at Rydges again any time. BTW they have a neat newsletter that tells you about events happening in the city you're visiting & also useful travel info. You can subscribe to it online at their website.
Oh just remembered, the shuttle service returning to the airport the next morning took over an hour - ( a journey of 10-15 minutes) we were collected and then stopped at every hotel in the CBD including a trip past some train station. We were told to take an early shuttle since the next shuttle wouldn't get us to the airport in time - but we could just as well have waited for the later shuttle as it would have made no difference, the next shuttle was right behind us ! So much for early bird ;-)

Good City Hotel

from Twobucks
As city hotels go this is a decent hotel. Located in the heart of Perth it makes a good base from which you can tour the city at leisure. Our room (an executive upgrade) was well appointed and spotless and big enough to be comfortable. Internet is extra and expensive at $30 a day and the connection is painfully slow so I suggest you use one of the many internet cafes scattered around town if you need this facility. Also, not all rooms are equipped with in-room safes so ask on booking in if you need one.

Great location in central Perth

from FionaHamilton
We stayed here for 6 nights at the end of May. Probably the best thing about this hotel is its location in the CBD - very close to shops and restaurants. Our room was medium sized and well maintained. The reception staff were pleasant and helpful. If you use the valet parking bear in mind that it usually takes 15 minutes for your car to arrive!

great location

from scottwa2468
i have stayed at this hotel on several occasions as i find it to be a great value hotel, the room was great, very spacious and very tidy, the staff were very friendly and the location is great, the only thing that went wrong was i requested a smoking room on booking and again on check-in only to be givin a non smoking room, the drop off-pick up parking area out the front of the hotel is very crowded and hard to drive into,i will stay at this hotel in the future
Management Response from GMRydgesPerth
Dear Guest,
Thank you for your feedback it is greatly appreciated. The location of our hotel seems to be one of our most popular assets.
Our drop off zone is unfortunately the down side of this location, in that we are without a driveway entrance area for vehicles and as such are limited to the drop off zone which whilst a public space, has been established primarily for the use of hotel patrons.
Please accept my apologies for not being able to offer you a smoking room. We allocate non smoking & smoking based upon availability but do at all times try to meet our customer requests. We can place a smoking request permanently in your profile for you, simply ask for this upon your next stay.
I look forward to welcoming you back to Rydges Perth.
Kind regards,

Good but not special

from Londoner29
Spend 2 nights at the Rydges in early March. After a late flight into Perth I checked in around 1am, there were 3 staff behind the counter, but no one offered any assistance when I was struggling to get through the door with my suitcases, they just all stood and watched me as if I was on TV.
The room was adequate and couldn't be faulted, though it was nothing special, with the oldest Tv I have ever seen. The good thing about the hotel is the location, it is near all the shopping facilities and close to Northbridge and the train station to Freemantle.
I found The CBD restaurant a tad confusing at first; for guests when they get their breakfast, no one greeted me so I did not know if I could sit anywhere or whether I was suppose to flag down one of the waiters to get a table? When I got the waiters attention and was seated I found the breakfast buffet was pleasant enough with good service. Overall an average hotel that is ok, but nothing to write home about.

Firstly let me apologise for the lack of service when you arrived at Rydges Perth, the Hotel consistently meets guest expectations and on this occasion we were unable to provide the level of service that you required and based on this feedback will be working on solutions to improve our customer service both within the CBD Restaurant & Bar and Front Office areas.

Stay at the Rydes...

from LeoUk
We stayed here from the 14th Feb. for 15 nights in an Executive room. Overall we were very pleased with the service and friendly and helpful staff who made us feel very welcomed. Our room was very clean, had a good view of the city but this I suspect was due to being on the 15th floor so I'm not sure what the views would be like from a lower floor.

When we did eat in the restaurant the food was very good with a wide selection to choose from. The Rydges is very well located for access to the ferry, train and bus services and is also surrounded by many shops, restaurants and easy excess to places of interest.

Good choice - clean, central and did the job! Fantastic Staff

from gillygeegee
Booked this on strength of reviews on Tripadvisor. Only stayed overnight. Comfortable, clean, spacious (By Eurpoean city standards) all usual mod cons (safe, desk, ironing board in room), good views from our upper floor, quiet and I was not disturbed by other guests. Large comfy beds. Bathroom could do with a bit of an update, but servicable. Very central location - did not have breakfast at hotel as this seemed relatively expensive and there are cafes aplenty on your doorstep. This gets a rating of 5 not necessarily for quality of hotel but very helpful staff. We had an issue with car hire and asked if they could locate where we should collect (it was booked through an agent who booked us a car in Perth, Scotland) and whilst they took the mick out of the idiot poms (it was a US agent and they gave me a toll free number for Australia), they managed to get a car hire sorted for us when the cricket was on ....

Top Local Tips for Perth

Go to freemantle for the day Go on the river boat to freemantle , have a good walk around /book a tour then return on the train . Brilliant day out lovely quaint place

Boats + Free buses Use the boats to travel to the various places on the river, ie Freemantle, Rotnest Island. Use the Cat buses that are free.

You 'Must' go here! If you fancy a rather lovely champagne bar, where you can have oysters as well then you should visit Must, in Mount Lawley. We were en route to eat at Jackson's next door and popped in for some champagne...there is an excellent champagne bar on the first floor where you can everything from vintage Dom Perignon to Moet and a super barman who can advise on what would be best. Definately worth a visit!
