Taxis are hard to get While my hotel had a taxi-rank out the front, it often had no taxi waiting. Forget about hailing one in the street, they never stop - you need to find a taxi-rank (there's not many of them) or ring the taxi company.

Perth lives up to its reputation Perth has a reputation as being "dullsville" and even though I live here it desrves that reputation especially if you are over 45. Northbridge is for the young although there are many restaurants to choose from. From a CBD perspective Perth becomes very quiet after 6:00 pm so don't expect too much.

Saving money with Public Transport We enjoy our frequent holidays but to enable us to do so we often look for "cheaper options". We caught the public bus into Perth from the Airport. This was very cheap and worked well. We utilized the free "Cat" bus service around Perth (and walked a lot), and caught the train back to Perth from Freemantle. (We did splurge on one ferry trip from Perth to Freemantle to enable us to go on the magnificent river - but even this was the cheapest option we could find, rather than an expensive tour/cruise.)
