Great Location, Beautiful Hotel, but service needs help
from kaycoisa
This hotel just seemed to have a terrible time getting anything right. The reservation was messed up, the requests required reminders, the final bill was a mess and after we left incorrect charges were applied to our credit card. This is not the hotel for buisiness as one would think. The concierge was very helpful, however the front desk staff seemed inexperienced. The rooms were spacious and very well kept. The pool was lovely. The breakfast buffet was wonderful, but again the staff was busier socializing than pouring coffee. If you are looking for a 5 star hotel in central Melbourne and have the energy to deal with the staff, this is an ideal location. However, if you are on a tight schedule and can't afford the time to deal with 2 star staff in a 5 star hotel...... try another hotel.
Pleasant but not perfect
from JCW
OK, so it`s modern, well-designed, well-located. The beds are great. The rooms are well-designed. A pretty cool place to stay.
But service isn't as sharp as it might be given hat it's far fron cheap: I had to chase a request for foam pillows, due to a feather allergy, several times - although the duty manager was hugely apologetic when I contacted him in frustration. And some of the nice touches that I appreciate as a Platinum guest were missing (no upgrade, no Exec Lounge).

The Place in Melbourne!
from travelgrems
The Westin is an ideal base in Melbourne. It actually has more the energy of a W with a trendy Martini bar, some very busy bars downstairs and an energy as soon as you enter the lobby. The rooms are great- huge marble bathrooms and the reliable Heavenly Bed. The best part about this property is the location- it is 2 blocks from Federation Square, the River and all of the Collins Street shopping. This property does not seem to be listed in any Fodor's/Frommer's Guide books- so we were a little nervous to just go with TripAdvisor reviews when picking this hotel, but we were extremely pleased with our choice as soon as we arrived. We are a young couple who like to travel in style- so this was a great pick for us! Make sure to check out Federation Square for dinner and walk down the river to see the Casino- Melbourne is very alive over the weekends, so try and plan your visit over a Fri/Sat if posssible. Also, the Penguin Parade on Phillip Island is truly a once in a lifetime experience, so make sure to take one of the day trips there.
Where Melbournians stay
from Melbourne-me2
I am a born and bred Melbournian. When my husband and I occassionally have a weekend away from the kids, this is where we stay. We've stayed a few times and always enjoy it. Have tried others (e.g. The Crown, Collins St Hyatt and Park Hyatt), but this is the place. Location is great, rooms terrific. Breakfast is good, but for other meals try Melbourne's wonderful restaurants on your doorstep. 'Taxi' in the city square/Federation square is brilliant.
I will never stay there again - terrible hotel
from Mixologist80
I went to Melbourne for three nights on business and decided that I would give the Westin a second try (I had stayed there on a holiday for a few nights the previous year). Unfortunatley I was so disappointed and uncomfortable that after one night I checked out. I have Starwood Platinum level membership, so when I checked in I was surprised to be given a room with one queen size bed. I think this is the only 5 Star hotel in Australia, that offers queen size beds, and not king size beds in all rooms (except twins). How ridiculous. When I asked for I room with a king, I was told that I could have one facing a wall (no view), so I accepted the queen bedded room facing Collins Street. Unfortunately this led to another problem - inadequate sound proofing - all night I heard car noise, tram noise and even people outside on the street. You would think a newish, expensive five star hotel would be built with suitable sound insulation (double glazing). Another uncomfortable point, the bedhead was a solid piece of wood with a cloth draped over it. A padded bedhead is usually provided, so it is comfortable to read in bed.
Westin Melbourne has also ruined a great concept in their showers. They provide a wall unit, and a large drenching head from the ceiling. The ceiling unit now projects needle like jets of water, rather than soft rain drops (so well executed at the Westin Sydney).
Overall I found the Westin to be a substandard property. Its only redeeming attribute was a good breakfast selection.
Thankfully there are many other properties in Melbourne which are much more worthwhile to stay in.

TRUELY THE BEST HOTEL IN MELBOURNE
Yes it is expensive but this is what you get for the extra hard earning money to pay:
1. The Bed - Heavenly ... Apart from the Bellagio bed in Vegas, this is the most comfortable bed.
2. The Room - Its huge and we got a room facing the federation square.
3. The Service - Best .. downturn service day and night.
4. Breakfast - Yum ... you can forget the lunch.
5. The Location - Next to everything. Tram at your doorstep.
6. The bathroom - The bathtub is huge - it really can fits two.
If you want luxuary - Westin is for you.

I stayed here for one night only on my way to Sydney. This was a lovely hotel to stay in. The room was very nice, modern and clean and the service was very friendly.. I would reccomend this hotel to anyone
Absolutely Outstanding!

Perfect Hotel!
Everything about our stay was fantastic - the sincere "welcome" from the door man and check-in staff, the ambience of the hotel, the large modern rooms, the divine buffet breakfasts, the evening turndown service with Chocolatier chocolates on the pillows, fresh fruit in the room every day, 2 showerheads in the bathroom (1 raining style huge showerhead and 1 handheld nozzle), the largest hotel bathroom I have ever seen with stone benchtops, the "Heavenly" bed, the "Heavenly" bath, desk with great chair and filing cabinet, internet access.
The Wellness Centre is fantastic with large swimming pool, spa, gym, sauna, steam room, change rooms with showers and Molten Brown products.
Absolutely outstanding service and perfect location right in the centre of everything!

The best hotel in Melbourne by far
from A TripAdvisor Member
My partner and I stayed at The Westin for 1 night on Sunday 12th June and had a fabulous experience. Check in was easy, the rooms were delightful and the beds were heaven! After staying at most hotels in Melbourne, I always come back to The Westin. If you can, I recommend to stay with a package deal and have the buffet breakfast - just divine!
Great location, Excellent rooms and service
from momon
Location is great. Right on Collins but central to everything. What's nice about this hotel is that it has that personal boutique type feel and the service is excellent. The concierge, Andrew, got us into some pretty neat restaurants and knew exactly what we were looking for.
Room was very spacious and immaculate. The heavenly bed and shower were great. Well worth the money for an extremely comfortable stay. The hotel feels new (maybe it is) and therefore nothing is run down.
Highly recommended.

Top Local Tips for Melbourne
Flower Drum Dedicated foodies shoud try to visit the Flower Drum restaurant in Chinatown. It can be hard to get in and it is expensive but its considered to be Australia's top Chinese restaurant.
Best Restaurant In Australia If you can get a reservation and if you enjoy an amazing gourmet dining experience you MUST dine in Vue De monde! Unbelievable!
Free Tram There is a free tram that does a city circle and has recorde commentary of all Melbourn'e history and attractions. Can hop on and off and certain points of interest.
