Great Location
from bmamMy apologies that you encountered frustrations with the speed of the lift on the weekend, it can be quite a problem at certain times as our lesiure guests do tend to have a late breakfast generally atthe same time, which does put pressure on the lift capacity and the congestion at check in and check out.
It was also surprising to read that the restaurant was not available for supper after the show, I will be discussing this with the outlet manager as this should not occur, in particular on weekends with late comings and goings of our guests.
We are looking forward to the renovations completing and launching the new look of the hotel; it is going to be excellent!
I look forward to welcoming you back next time you are in the city.

A Good hotel with nice location
from q9rveThe only negative thing about this hotel is the bathroom. Maybe the Executive King rooms could have a bigger bathroom? Also, I would recommend the management to use curtains instead of glass doors to cover the bathtub, as it could be dangerous if kids were to play around with them.
All in all, this is a great hotel with a very good and friendly staff and a friendly atmosphere. Will definitely come back again.
The suite side rooms where the hotel designed the bathrooms from scratch are very spacious and would recommend if staying lonerger than a couple of days in the future. They also have a walk in robe, seperate shower and bath in most rooms.
The hotel is also undergoing a ground floor refurbishment at present, which will give the entrance, restaurant and bar a massive lift that will reposition the property as one Melbourne's leading 4.5 star properties. We're very excited about these improvements.
We look forward to welcoming you back sometime in the future.
Best regards
Ok, I suppose...
from ca_dubGood things: Friendliness, attentiveness and eager to help attitude of the staff. A lot can be forgiven due to the eager to help attitude of the staff. We were in a refurbished room so the room was fine and clean and well maintained. The bed was good, a little soft for my liking, but each to their own. Location is good - near to everything, but not too mad when you step out the front door.
Not so good things: Although the bedrooms were refurbished the bathrooms seem to have been overlooked, with old style fittings. The same can be said for the minibar, which looked like it belonged in the 70/80's. We were woken by city traffic and street noise (and we were on a high floor and routinely sleep with earplugs as we live in a big hectic city) despite asking for a quiet room. The windows just seemed really "thin" and unable to block any noise, even from 20 storeys up. No safe in room, and i did not feel comfortable leaving electornic items (e.g. laptop, video camera) with the porter (safe deposit boxes are available, but are not big enough to store electornic items, which most hotel room safes are).
The main problem with Rydges i think is the building itself is showing it's age. Whilst some cosmetic work can be done with the interior of the rooms, there's not such a quick fix for an old 70/80's building. This negative is made up for by the staff, who try really hard - as shown on Tripadvisor with management of the hotel responding to comments and being eager to allay any concerns.
On balance, i would agree with previous poster who noted that "you could do worse than Rydges" as the problems are relatively minor. But, if i were to return to Melbourne i would try my luck somewhere else first.
The note on no in room safes is an important one, the hotel has on order approx 40 in rooms safes yet to arrive but have been told they are on a boat from somewhere and should be in rooms in the coming months. I agree, nothing better than having your own room safe for valuables such as passports, jewlery etc when travelling form overseas.
The bathrooms were upgraded in those rooms roughly 18 months ago, again subjective with decor, however will take on your comments that are a little behind the times. We are in the process of installing new hair dryers and other ammenties in these rooms which will hoepfully modernise them more.
We agree with your comments that the feeling on arrival is a little behind the times and although unconfirmed, it is hoped that a significant change will occur on the ground floor over the winter months - all of us have our fingers crossed that it comes off, nothing more exciting than a new product to re-postion the property!
I trust you enjoyed your travels in Aussie, it is an excellent place to visit and hope to see you back here one day and give us another go.
Yours sincerely,

Worst Hotel Experience ever
from KeenmollyArriving at 2.30PM we were told that our room would not be ready for another hour, when we explained that we wished to use the room before going out and that friends would be joining us the staff asked us to wait for a few moments while they sorted the problem out.We where then given the "room from hell"
1/ Worn and delapidated carpet with large stains torn and frayed.
2/ Arm cairs with imbedded dirt shabby material and broken springs.
3/ Dust so thick you could write your name in it.
4/ Numerous cigarette burns on the furniture and wood work although we had requested a non smoking room.
5/ Mini bar not stocked but with freezer iced up so badly that it was obvious that this room had not been in use for some time.
This room was supposed to be their top room advertised on the Rydges website at $310.00 with breakfast.
We were then offered a King room with no spa and a tiny ensuite with shower over the bath this we took as we needed to join our friends
The whole expeirience has left a nasty taste and ruined what should have been a fabulous weekend
Never again will we stay at this excuse for a hotel.
It was of interest and concern to read the third written correspondence on your stay at Rydges Melbourne in April.
In light of your comments that are not disimilar to the comments left with the hotel when you stayed; the post stay survey response, and now the note on Tripadvsor; the hotel will reiterate the management concerns and apologizes that you and your wife did not enjoy your stay during April.
It also ackowledges that the email sent to you for the post stay survey did not have your wif'es correct name on it. There is no reason why this was not correct as it was recorded correctly in the system.
As addressed in the letter to you following your stay; the housekeeping department have been addressed and two individuals have received written wanrings for their lack of attention to detail with the rooms they have cleaned.
The hotel is still hoping to have some of the furnishing and decor in the rooms refurbished in the not too distant future and appreciates that the current state does not meet everyones expectations. However the hotel also receives favourable comments on these rooms as well.
It is an important part of the Rydges culture that all guests have an enjoyable stay and hopfelly return in the future. Again, as originally offered, if there is anything the hotel can do to make up for your poor experience. Please do not heistate to contact myself direct.

Good place to stay
from Big_Jim_CebuI was very happy with every meal. I was also very happy with the promptness, helpfullness and friendliness of ALL staff.
What I was not happy with was my bed. There were two of us in a double room so we had a single bed each. I kept feeling like I would fall out of bed. I was happy with the room otherwise. I imagine if I was in a larger better, I would have felt happier.
The cable TV channels were a bit limited to what I normally expect.
There is a rooftop pool but I think they have forgotton it is there as it lacks maintenance.
Overall, you could do a lot worse than Rydges. I would be happy to stay there again
Your comments on the ‘promptness, helpfulness and friendliness of all staff’ are certainly appreciated as we do pride ourselves on our sincerity, which is an important part of the Rydges culture.
We do have many different types of rooms and I encourage you to look on our website for details of our rooms available.
The pool has been earmarked for renovation, as it is a very popular facility at the hotel, although there are no formal plans in place at the moment. In the meantime we endeavour to make the area as comfortable as possible.
We thank you again for your valued feedback and look forward to welcoming you back to Rydges Melbourne in the not too distant future.
If I may be of any assistance in the future, please do not hesitate to contact me personally.

Delightful Rydges Experience
from victoria60The room was huge, much larger than most consisting of a lounge/dining area with table and four chairs, writing desk, tea and coffee making facilities, internet etc., the large bedroom was equipped with television and very comfortable bed and a couple of steps away a huge bathroom with spabath for two, seperate shower and nicely finished.
There were two enormous windows to the street from the living area with OK views, bit much to expect great views in the central city other than that of the building next door.
There's a lovely cafe'/restaurant downstairs open all day from breakfast to afternoon cocktails and dinner with open air dining in good weather.
There is a lift to the carpark within the motel, yes it is the goods lift but that didn't bother anyone, it is quite convenient. The only comment anywhere near negative is that the lifts give a rather large clunk on landing which is a bit annoying but easy to put up with when you weigh it up with all the positives.
The motel isn't super modern as it is quite old maybe 70's vintage but to some extent this is an advantage with the large room and we were impressed by the helpful staff.
If you're looking for a no-problem stay this could well be the place.
The staff at Rydges Melbourne certainly strive to provide the best possible service to all our guests, and especially love decorating the hotel lobby during special events.
Our deluxe rooms on one side of the hotel have been completely refurbished, and all beds have been replaced with brand new “dream’ beds. The lifts to these floors where also replaced in 2005.
The suites, while not being included in the recent refurbishments, have had a recent “face lift” including new dream beds, new linen and other amenities. We hope to complete a similar upgrade to that of the deluxe rooms in the not to distant future.
The lobby and restaurant have been earmarked for a complete refurbishment, which should be completed by the end of this year, which will give the hotel a more modern and relaxed feel.

Comfortable
from TastydogsGo again? Yup 5 out of 5
At Rydges Melbourne, we have several core values, the basis of which is an obsession with exceeding guest expectations. This goal is instilled to all team members throughout their employment at Melbourne. We strive to provide the standard of service that elevates us above our competitors, making Rydges Melbourne the premium hotel in Melbourne.
There are two restaurants at Rydges Melbourne. The CBD café and Bar and Legends Grill catering to everyone’s tastes.
The breakfast in our restaurant is extremely popular as it offers an extensive cold and hot buffet with a specialised egg station where the chef will cook your eggs or omelette to order, as well as giving you the option to order from the a la carte menu, including pancakes with maple syrup.
Our Barista has just come 3rd place in the Sensational Coffee Championships judged from all Rydges Hotels & Resorts Australia and New Zealand wide in conjunction with Douwergberts. An achievement we are all very proud of.

Rydges Melbourne
Quickly forgotten
from expectant customerIt served its purpose, was in a good location for Melbourne.
Dinner was pleasant enough, my only gripe that after being seated, I was left a very long time before an order was taken.
Good plentiful breakfast.

Rydges Melbourne
adequate city hotel
from d.currieComments received on 'friendliness of the hotel team' are certainly appreciated as we do pride oursleves on our sincereity, which is an important part of the Rydges culture.
We apologise for concerns with the queen spa suites, the corridors and pool area being perceived as dated and tired. These areas have been identified for refurbishment, however the timing of this work is not conclusive at this point. The hotel underwent a major multi-million dollar upgrade of 293 rooms that finshed in 2005 that did not include the suites at the time.
The hotel has recently had brand new 'Rydges Dream Beds' installed in the all the hotel rooms, including duvets and new bedthrows. These in themselves other than providing the best nights sleep, also give the rooms a lift in their appearance.
There are plans for works on the ground floor including the restaurant and bar that could occur in 2007, however nothing offcial for the 70 suites at this point. The hotel endeavours to keep these rooms of as good a standard as possible in the meantime to ensure the comfort of our guests.

Loved the Rydges
from female-touristThank you for taking the time to leave a review following your visit to Rydges Melbourne. The responses our guests provide us with are an invaluable source of information and allow us to improve our standards and service.
Our location in the CBD is a major drawing point to the hotel. We are walking distance to many different attractions, shops and restaurants as well as having the Trains, Trams & Buses at our doorstop. The Front Office Staff are more than happy to explain the inner working of Melbourne’s public transport system to those that need, as well as giving advice on what to do and see in and around Melbourne.
We thank you again for your valued feedback and look forward to welcoming you back to Rydges Melbourne in the not too distant future.
