The Lindrum is just the sort of hotel I like. It is calm, relaxed and pleasant. I enjoyed the atmosphere of the foyer and the service was excellent. We had a mix up with the bookings and it was quickly rectified: in fact we were offered an upgrade. Rooms were very well fitted out.

Top Local Tips for Melbourne

Do some research before you use the trams. Melbourne has a great network of trams, trains and buses that run frequently but the system can be complex for the new traveller. Plenty of local shops sell Metcard concession cards that can be used interchangably on any of trains, buses and trams but it is worthwhile also picking up the free "Fares and Travel Guide" to understand the system because there are so many options and zones. You can step on to a tram at any stage but you need to validate a card - ideally buy the card before you get on board. In the central area, you may need to stand in the middle of the road at selected fenced tram stops which can be a bit unnerving when you first try it.

Food Heaven Indulge in the best food in the world. The fusion and influences of the west and east coupled with amazing produce surely make Melbourne one of the best dining cities in the world. I would highly recommend the following places: Taxi @ Federation Square (modern Aussie), The Press Club on Flinders Street (Greek), Yu-u on Flinders Lane (Japanese) and Donovans at St. Kilda on the beachfront (modern Aussie)
