Perfect
from HOTDIGExcellent Location, Price and Facilities
from JLotsosThe Casino is just a 5 minute stroll away and if you want to walk to the city that is another 5 to 10 minute walk but there is plenty of shops to see along the way.
The apartment hotel has a cafe but we didn't eat at it. We booked a studio room and I asked for one with a view. The staff where very happy to accomodate my wishes and at night the view is brilliant looking over the Yarra. The studio apartment was as good as some of the five star hotels I have stayed at. The bed was comfortable (on the firm side), there was a couch and full cooking facilities. The bathroom was spacious with a good bath and shower.
We only paid $150 for this room and I would definately stay here again. The apartments are fairly new and look modern and clean.
Very happy!
from L.NorthamGood location - reasonable rooms
from peas_mkWe booked a studio apartment and on arrival were told that our room would not be ready until 2.00pm (standard check in time). We accepted an upgrade to a studio room overlooking the Yarra and Casino complex for $10/night. I think this was just a way to get some more money from us but after an early morning flight didn't want to argue.
The room itself was a good size and the bathroom enormous. A small fridge, microwave and stovetop would have made self catering easy but the many great restaurants in Melbourne meant we didn't need to cook ourselves.
A few room design features left me asking questions though. The air conditioning vent was directly above the bed so it blew air at us all night. The bedside lamps didn't provide enough light to read so you had to use the main lights - quite inconvenient as the switch was very hard to reach from bed and the whole room was bright so another person couldn't sleep. Also if you are on the bed and looking out the window you look at another building. Had the bed been on the opposite wall it would have provided a great view of the river, Crown and the water. Perhaps other rooms have different layouts. And as another reviewer pointed out, there is no ramp to roll bags up and into the hotel. Fine for us with small bags but if you were staying for longer you could have heavy bags.
Given Melbourne's winter weather, an umbrella should have been provided in the room. I asked at reception and the helpful chap said not at the moment but to check back later. When I asked another person later in the day there were also none available. But she made it seem like an ordeal. So I just gave up asking. Disappointing for a 4.5 star property (which it claims to be).
Great Find
from North_QueenslanderHone by 11pm from the footy decieded to order a curry and stew from the "sleepwalkers menu " - was k but not worth $20.
Brekkie on the other had was lovely a nice variety but not over the top, bacon , eggs , beans , grilled toms, little brekky snags,, cereals, toast , juices. Very good value for $13!!
That night be had a drink at the hotel before heading out for dinner on Lygon St, reception shouted us our first round to apologise for the room mix up earlier which was a nice touch.
On our last nite we had dinner and a few drinks at the hotel bar - menu had about 13 selections such as pasta, nachos, steak all at very good prices.
Location was close to the trams and a 7 11. Tram out the front took us straight to our game at the Telstra dome.
Would def stay again!!
Expected More Australian Hospitality
from lancenykOn check-in, we were told our room was showing up in the system as a dirty room. Instead of sending someone up to confirm the actual status of the room, we were told to go up and have a look ourselves and only to contact reception if the room is indeed dirty.
Lighting in the room was poorly designed.
Upon reaching the room we realised that even though we had the appetite for some room service, there was no menu in sight. There is also no free cable TV and a movie on average costs about AUD15.00.
We were more annoyed at the fact that help was not offered to carry our luggages up the steps and as guests, we had to verify the status of the room ourselves; which if i may add, is quite absurd!
We were also disappointed that the usual Australian hospitality was nowhere in sight. Definitely a 3 star property after having stayed at the Oaks in Adelaide as well.
Other than the above, we agree that Oaks hotels and apartments are considered good value-for-money and will continue to choose the brand unless something more unfortunate happens in the future.
Fantastic value for money
from shaz2512good value, great location
from hen302Staff not quite up to standard. A bit confusing at checkin as I had reserved more than one room and a little slow.
Breakfast was the worst aspect of the service. I dont think that they have quite got this right yet as there was quite a wait to get a table and food was not replenished very quickly. They just seemed really understaffed.
However, that aside, it is good value for money and in a great location and we all enjoyed our weekend.
Fantasic
from nzpagesWell done Oaks on Market.
great value
from scottwa2468Top Local Tips for Melbourne
The food is incredible! There are so many places to eat in Melbourne you dont know where to start. European cafe does a fantastic(expensive $17) big breakfast but perfect for a day of sightseeing. Cookie does delicious thai fusion food - although a litle ont eh procey side for the portion sizes. Bigmouth in St Kilda does a yummy lunch don't go past here - very affordable too! Aux Batifeaux on Nicholson Street is an amazing french restaurant and stephan is a fantastic waiter. The food is exquisite. The waterfront out in Port Melbourne does an amazing seafood platter but it is HUGE and best to share with someone else at $140!!
Go to a game Go and watch a game of AFL at the Telstra Dome of MCG
Airport Shuttle If you want to save some money on taxis whilst in Melbourne make sure you get the Airport shuttle. You will find it just outside the domestic terminal and the bus will take you into the city and there you will catch another shuttle bus which will drop you off at your hotel. Make sure your order the return trip the day before you want to leave. It is an excellent service and much cheaper than a taxi.
