Historical Traveller Reviews of Cosmopolitan Hotel

from sydneytoemlbourne
I would like to commend The Eight Hotels Group on their professional management and their 'GR8 Hotels' up and down the country !! See you next time.....

When I travel on business I need creature comforts, lifestyle, down time and good access to the city. I recently travelled to Melbourne on business staying at The Cosmopolitan Hotel and was, once again, very impressed with all aspects of my stay from ease of booking, comfort & space, left luggage facilities and 'can-do' service.

Importantly The Cosmopolitan is very close to a great lifestyle in St Kilda it was perfectly located for relaxation on the weekend.

Good value

from iventure
We arrived into Melbourne on an early flight so were pleased when we were able to check in around 11am, at no extra cost, instead of waiting for the usual 2pm. We booked into a twin room which was very modern and spacious. Despite the food being just as good, the hotel restaurant was a bit less expensive than the other good restaurants in St Kilda. Free secure parking was an added bonus. The hotel is located along a tram route so there was a bit of noise whenever a tram went past but, we were overally impressed with this hotel and would return anytime.

super hotel

from albertst
Fantastic value, very smart spacious new room, and extremely quiet. Comfy king bed. A large plasma screen TV mounted on the wall, such a nice change from the usual small hotel room TV. Smartly fitted out bathroom. Great location, short walk to the beach or to restaurants and easy tram to the city. Front desk staff most helpful and courteous, and to top it all off, secure free parking! Highly recommended.

noisy and questionable service

from Paulo
We stayed at this hotel for a week and paid an average of 55 english pounds a night for our one bedroom apartment. Facilities in room were great - with 2 t.vs (one plasma) and modern bathroom, kitchen and decor.

The cleaning service left a lot to be desired. We had to clean a couple of surfaces that had not been wiped and some of the kitchen utensils were not clean. It took 3 requests for the room to be hoovered and if you miss the cleaners (who finish at 12) on the fourth day you won't have your bed changed either!!! Again, this took 2 requests.

We requested a quiet room, this was far from what we got. The room was very noisy probably due to the absence of any windows. Instead, there are a series of plastic slat type windows which are more like vents that do not provide any sound insulation. St Kilda is a busy area for socialising so don't stay here if you want peace and quiet. The other problem was noise from the street below - this included drunken people and a domestic incident.

All in all the apartment is not worth the money, although if in a quieter position with an improvment to the cleaning service it would probably have made the grade.
Management Response from Eight_Hotels
After reading the following review and obviously being very distressed by it we would like to take this opportunity to respond. Our hotel is regarded as one of the best-valued and most interesting boutique hotels in St Kilda. Our location is superb, our warm service is renowned and our housekeeping department and general cleanliness is categorically of world-class standards. We apologize if in this case, the service has not been immaculate.

Staff and management assign guest rooms according to their requirements. We believe strongly in customer satisfaction and deeply regret when a guest has been assigned a room that does not meet their expectations. In these circumstances we do our utmost to find a room that suits their needs and, where this is not possible, look to guarantee their return to a room of their choosing on a subsequent visit. We hope we have the chance of welcoming you back to the Cosmopolitan Hotel.

Lovely stay at St Kilda

from wemarriedinvegas
Firstly, compared to other hotels we have stayed in Melbourne, the room was large and reasonably priced. The room we had was just a double room but it had king size bed, plasma tv on the wall. The hotel had just been refurbished and was very modern and clean. Unfortunately, the hotel's restaurant was being remodelled after our first day and our room rate included breakfast. The hotel was kind enough to give us vouchers to a lovely cafe just around the corner which had the best breakfast you could imagine, which more than made up for any inconvienience. The hotel is in an excellent location, the staff never seemed to busy to help but were sometimes devoid of a smile. This is where we will stay the next time we are in Melbourne. (if you are hungry go to Topolinos on Fitzroy Street, so nice we went there for dinner twice)

excellent accomm. super handy location

from stanoz
i use the cosmopolitan hotel for work purposes and find the staff very welcoming and accomodating to my needs.
the cosmopolitan is very close to my head office which is super handy and also close to restuarants and shops.
i plan on using the cosmoplitan hotel for future visits to melbourne.

Great hotel with fantastic location

from davyjcrow
We stayed here for a couple of nights during an extended holiday to Australia recently.

The location couldn't really be better - it's just at the end of the Ackland street in St Kilda, and only a minute from the promenade and water's edge.

The room itself was clearly recently renovated, and to quite a high standard. The bathroom in particular was very stylish. We did have the toilet flush break one afternoon but this was quickly attended to.

The staff were friendly and helpful, I would consider this hotel good value for money.

Cosmo, a trendy base

from steve22537
Thank you for your warm hospitality and excellent service during our stay last week. The hotel is in a fantastic location, walking distance to Luna Park, the Palais Theatre, Acland St and the picturesque Port Phillip Bay. With trams running past the door shopping in Chapel St, Bridge Rd, Chadstone and the city centre are only a short ride away. Our room, the Cosmo Deluxe, was very well appointed, immaculately presented with a luxurious boutique interior, a king size bed with superior quality linen. The classic diamond wire chair complimented the decor and was extremely comfortable. The restaurant facility was also impressive in its vibrant and eclectic decor, homely and relaxed atmosphere and the menu has something for every taste. This trendy hotel is an ideal base with rooms serviced daily, laundry facilities and secure on-site parking to complete the experience. We look forward to staying at the Cosmopolitan again very soon, as it made for an enjoyable and relaxing holiday at exceptionally good value.

A bit disappointing...

After our great stay at the Altamont in Sydney, which is a sister hotel to the Cosmopolitan and part of the Eight Hotels chain, we were a bit disappointed with our stay here. We stayed in a deluxe king, the third grade up. The room was OK, bed comfortable and the location had many cool restaurants and cafes within walking distance. Front desk staff not very friendly or helpful. We did enjoy our breakfasts next door at the Black and Orange restaurant [not included in the price of the room], which has great happy hour specials as well.

Top Local Tips for Melbourne

Getting around is easy Don't hire a car for the full duration of your trip, taxis and rental cars are only necessary for long trips. Shopping and local sight seeing can be done on foot or via the trams.

Cake shops Acland Street, St Kilda, has fantastic cake shops, which are open late for coffee, cakes and light meals.

Avoid JetStar Airlines JetStar is an Australia domestic airline. We paid in time, aggravation, taxi fares and fees when they cancelled our return flight and didn't notify us. We would have missed our return to the US. Remember just because an airline is cheap doesn't make it a good deal.
