Historical Traveller Reviews of Rendezvous Allegra Hotel
Nice rooms, excellent staff; good facilities, but room not sound proof
from RWMLIt was dissapointed that there was a post-footy party in the next room. Staff were helpful and tried to quiet them down a few times however not too effective. The party did not stop till 1:30am in the morning. There were also noise from the night clue / pub around the corner. The room is not sound proof as we can hear the conversation from next room rather clearly.
Overall it is a excellent hotel.
Enjoyable stay at this hotel
from shandy40A number of reviews have commented on the poor room service but we had absolutely no problem at all. The desk staff were courteous and gave us excellent recommendations on restaurants to dine at.
The buffet breakfast was hardly spectacular but had everything we wanted and as it was included in the price one certainly could not complain.
As we picked up the room for half price with the breakfast thown in, we were extremely happy.
Front desk service is good, but everything else horrible.
from A TripAdvisor MemberArrived at the hotel and there was only one receptionist on the phone. Waited for about 5 minutes before I could be checked in. Booked a superior room and was given a room on the 13th floor. Room itself was as advertised, but seems like maintainence wasn't that great. Lots of dust, especially on the telephone, and the bed itself wasn't that comfortable. The walls were paper thin, and unfortunately for me, the room next door seemed to be having a party, with people singing, yelling and banging their door. Called down to the reception, and was told that they would change the room for me and they would send the bellhop up. Waited half an hour, and no-one came up to help me change rooms. I went downstairs and the same receptionist apologized profusedly and gave me a new room which was a floor above my original room.
New room was the same as the room before, with quite a lot of dust, etc The noise from the floor below could still be heard, but wasn't as bad and I figured I could put up with it.
While the hotel looked serverely understaffed, the receptionist was very nice and apologetic about the noise and slow service. Could be also because it was a saturday and they keep a minimal staff presence at the hotel. Also disappointing was the fact that it seemed they were helpless at stopping the people from creating the noise problem. However, besides the room problems, I also encountered the following:
1. Internet connection was VERY slow, and seemed that I could only access webpages and can't access anything else (email, msn, yahoo messenger, aol, lotus notes, etc).
2. I received a few phonecalls from my colleagues and friends, and they told me that when they called, they were put on hold for over 5 mins before an operator answered to direct the call.
3. No room service. This is unacceptable for a 5 star hotel.
4. Only one phone next to the bedside, and no phone on the workdesk, which was all the way on the other side of the room.
Overall, the rooms themselves felt 5 star, however, everything else pointed to the fact that this hotel was not much better than an average 3 star hotel. Definitely not worth the asking price and I would probably never stay here again.
service
from jaerae2507As with others, the toiletries were particularly lacking. We requested on several occasions for additional items to be bought to our room. For everything we requested, including room service, we had to chase it up at least once.
On a positive, the rooms were beautiful and the bathroom featured a spa as well as a shower. I LOVED the king bed, the pillow menu and the doona. A funny thing to love (maybe i don't get enough sleep!) but the bed was divine!
There was a problem with additional charges being accidently put on my credit card and we received a free breakfast in the hotel restaurant to make up for it, which was an appreciated gesture.
All in all, I think that this would make a good option for a business traveller but honeymooners and romantic getaways should perhaps try somewhere else.
Good central hotel - excellent concierge/front desk service
from keeletravellerMaid service a big letdown however. Not enough milk/shampoo/toiletries even when requested repeatedly - was told by maid she had instructions to put only one of everything in the rooms! Wet towels left every day when we returned to room. Room sometimes not made up when returning at the end of each day, had to go out again so the maid could service the room! Somethings's going wrong with this part of the running of this hotel and it was a hassle I could have done without on a business stay. This lost the Allegra a star in my book. Would stay again if not on business as the hotel was well located, clean and felt safe and had pool, it was also good value price wise. I won't expect good maid service however and will ask the manager for a bundle of shampoo sachets when I check in.
Spa suite was very nice, shame about the room service...
from dancequeen73While the room itself was very nice, spa great, nice bathroom, the room service at the Allegra was absymal. When we checked in at 3pm, we requested our free bottle of champagne to brought up straight away with some ice so we could have a drink while having a spa. At 4pm, we rang reception to enquire where the champagne was and they said they were very sorry and it would it be straight up. We also asked for another bathrobe as there was only one in the room and some extra towels. At 5pm we rang again as nothing had come up to our room. Again they were very sorry and it would all be up straight away. At 5.15pm, someone knocked and brought us our two towels but still no champage or bathrobe. He said that the champagne would be coming up in 5 min when we enquired about it.
At 6.30pm we went down to reception as we going out for dinner and spoke to reception about the champagne and the fact that we had requested it 4 times and it was still not in our room (neither was the bathrobe and that had been requested 3 times). They were very sorry and said that they would fix it when we got back.
When we got back, we stayed downstairs until we could take our champagne upstairs. Turns out that someone else had delivered a bottle after we had gone out for dinner so ended up with two bottles. The next day we asked for some ice to be brought up, but again to no avail.
For an apparent 5 star hotel, the lack of service to the room was very ordinary and taints your stay in a nice hotel. While the staff were always courteous at reception and very sorry for all of the inconvenience and lack of service, it was obvious that they were understaffed and that room service issues are not really a concern for them.
Excellent customer service
from A TripAdvisor MemberI do not know whether they have responded to these reviews, but the customer service I received at Rendevous Allegra was just excellent. This is a rave review.
All staff were friendly and knowledgable - this was my first trip to Adelaide and they went way out of their way to help me with information, transport, etc.
Tea supplies included niceties such as green tea and the minibar has local wines and a big selection of other beverages. The pool was especially relaxing, being located indoors on the mezzanine floor.
The decor throughout is outstanding and the location allowed me to walk to all tourist attractions - the most fun was the central market with its beautiful fruit (including free samples), lolly shop, cold cuts, bakery, etc. Made my own breakfast there starting with a healthy capeseed just baked roll and finishing with peaches. Had fun just watching the the stallholders interacting with their regular customers, some of whom are real characters. It would be especially good for children, but check hours of opening as it is not daily.
The cake shop was the best as they had a great sense of humour and gave the cakes silly names - chocolate coconut "Lamington" cakes were baked in heart shapes and became "Lovingtons" - traditional French falkey pastries called "Palmiers" were renamed "Pig's Ears" and by gosh, they did look like that.
I wanted to attend a church service for Ash Wednesday and the hotel staff actually rang around and found me a very beautiful service to attend at St Peter's Anglican cathedral. Exquisite music and surroundings.
Definitely 5 star treatment.
t mind the rude service
from A TripAdvisor Membervery disappointing
from carls888Apart from that incident, the hotel in general did not provide the extras that we have come to expect when travelling and paying for 5 star. Only one shampoo/conditioner blend, a single soap and a shower cap was all that was available in the bathroom. It has a lovely big bath, but no bubbles, no cotton buds, no sewing kit, nail file, robe, slippers...
On top of that I had to leave notes for house keeping asking them to replenish tea, sugar, milk and even the single shower cap.
This review may sound severe, but we were not the only ones that felt this way about the hotel, as we realised when we checked out and were charged for meals in the restaurant that we had not eaten. The gentleman along side me was also arguing the point with the staff and the lady beside me was complaining that her airconditioning was set on 17degrees but was blowing out air so hot (at 35degrees) that they could no longer sit in the room. The staff told her to turn it to 22 degrees and wait until nighttime for it to cool down.
Hmmm.
Thanks for listening. We not not be recommending or visiting this hotel ever again.
Great city choice
from Sashina_LHighly ecommended.
Top Local Tips for Adelaide
Two top places to eat in Adelaide City The Union Hotel Pub in Waymouth Street has great food and amazing cocktails! Also Cafe Michael 2 in Rundal Street has some of the best Thai food I have ever tasted.
North Tce Take a walk down North Tce, walk past the casino, go inside the old train station, past parliment house, govenors house, go to the museum, art gallery, migration museum, state library, walk through the university. look at beautiful old buildings, relax in the beautiful gardens, catch a bus to anywhere! Go into the big shopping malls, but also look down as you walk and read the plaquards of South Australia's early settlers. North Tce extends all the way to the botanical gardens, or walk one street up to rundle st and rundle mall for food, drinkings and shopping.
Cafe Michael 2 Make sure not to miss out on what is often regarded as Adelaide's best thai restaurant. Never disappointing, Cafe Michael 2's menu is infallible, with the traditional favourites and some interesting new meals that are always up to par. Located on Rundle Street, in the heart of the city.
