Great Hotel!

from walruslady
First of all, this is the most stylized Holiday Inn I have ever seen. It is decorated in a very contemporary way - not with ugly hotel art and "hotel" upholstery. So, immediately I liked it. Then, we discovered they had free parking, and we loved it. Then, we saw the room, and we didn't want to leave. We had a nice view of Surfer's Paradise from one side, and on the other side, we could see the beach. Unfortunately, the beach view was interrupted by the Moroccan hotel, so if it's an unimpeded view you're looking for, you should probably go there instead. We had a nice balcony, although it was mid-winter and really too cold to enjoy it much. The room was clean, and the bed was comfortable. We even had a closet for hanging clothes. My husband and I thought thought it was a great hotel, and I would definitely stay there again!

Great Rooms and Services

from ConfuseHelpless
Just got back from surfers with a 4 night stay in Holiday Inn. It is a clean and big room. The bathroom is good as well as the room service. The counter service is good as I was allowed to check in early at aroung 10am. The room is new after the renovation. Did not try the pool as it is very cold. Breakfast is OK though it is a bit oily and the same menu everyday. I will definitely stay there again next time.

Fantastc position. Great rooms Lobby and pool

from jedi66
My wife and 10year old daughter had a fantastic time in SFP at the Holiday Inn. The Holiday Inn has been re renovated in a smart funky way. Lobby was great - Nice and light. Check in staff and concierge are all friendly and a great idea was to have a small coffee lady serving cappuccinos etc from early am. If you want a quick coffee early in the am before heading out it was there on the spot. Charge back to the room was also easy.

The rooms were clean and bright. Beds were very comfortable.

We had a room on the 18th floor with sunshine on the balcony each day...Glorious. Our room had a large Plasma TV and the bathrooms and showers were clean and spacious. You get a choice of 4 different types of pillows.

Housekeeping and room service were fantatsic. Nothing was a problem.
Pool was large and plenty of lounge chairs were available.
Gym is a bit tired and small.

Breakfast is served buffet style and was more than acceptable.
I would be happy to stay again.

3rd time at the Holiday Inn

from 3rd_Time_stayer
This was the 3rd time my family stayed at the hotel. We have done so as in the past we have been more than happy with all aspects of the hotel and were much anticipating the renovations. The Hotel generally accomodates alot of Japanese tourists but this time was completely booked out. We had booked our accomadation around Nov-Dec 2006 to secure our stay in February and upon check in we were given a lower than usual floor and facing the shady side which we had not requested. After a small wait we were given a room on the 12th floor facing north which we were used to when staying at the Holiday Inn. After a long first day on holidays all I wanted to do is relax in bed and watch TV. I began to slowly lift off the sheets and blanket and noticed two to three hairs which by that stage I was disgusted. As I made my way pulling the sheets off the bed I begun to notice more and more of the black small hairs. It was as if someone had trimmed their hair all over the sheets. I was shocked and appauled upon seeing this. I contacted the front desk and they too saw the hairs all over the sheet and blanket. They gave me some fresh sheets and I was not to happy about being expected to make my own bed after spending money for the next 7 nights. All I can say is the very first night was awful as all I did was scratch and I felt uncomfortable by what I saw. Were those sheets never replaced after the last guests? The next morning contacted front desk to remind them of the problem and they said a manager would be in contact with us. The rest of the stay seemed ok however one big issue: Housekeeping. It was evident that after all the money spend on renovations housekeeping was not up to standard and this will reflect in the ageing of the new furnishings. Some did more than others but generally not much dusting was done. Mirrors not cleaned. One didn't even bother placing the decorator cushions back on the bed. They were left on one of the chairs we had put them the night before. Milk was not replenished in the mini bar. Complimentary soaps were not always replenished as well. All the little things that can make a stay enjoyable were neglected. Each time we took a shower we would have to call housekeeping to remind them that in the double room we stayed there were 3 adults thus would need more towels that for two. If we didn't call they wouldnt realise. The complimentary newspaper was also forgotten on our first morning. On our seventh night after being quite disapointed in our overall stay we asked to speak to a manager since one never made a contact with us as promised. We didn't enjoy having to complain about some aspect of our stay at least daily but this was our third time and we were returning as normally all was fine. The place looked stunning and we were really looking forward to it and it did not meet our expectations. We were given a complimentary breakfast for the morning which we were checking out and the manager hoped to see us return as she could see we were unhappy. This is a shame as it is in a fantastic location close to beach and all other amenities. The front lobby looks stunning and the new bedrooms are such a difference from the old ones. I would stay here again for a weekend or so but in terms of longer stays I'm staying elsewhere. Housekeeping really needs to lift its standards

First trip to Gold Coast

from ell33
We had a 5 night stay in this hotel on our first trip to Australia. A great hotel perfectly located in the resort.

First impressions of the hotel were impressive. The large lobby with chandeliers and sofas everywhere gave it a relaxed atmosphere. friendly staff at check in and they remained so for the duration of our stay.

We were on the 12th floor which gave us great views of the beach, if from an angle. The room was spacious with two twin (king size) beds, cable tv, tea and coffee making facilities and a large bathroom.

The hotel also boasted a somewhat disappointing gym, a swimming pool (we didn't use it as the beach was a two minute walk away), a jacuzzi and sauna which we regularly used.

The breakfasts were ok, typical continental style with a large selection of oriental food for the Japanese tourists.

Location wise this hotel is a winner. Two minutes from the fantastic beach and right around the corner from the bars and restaurants. The large casino and shopping mall are also a 10 minute cab ride away. The Northcliffe Surf Club is only a ten minute walk away. We were recommended this by the cab driver who picked us up from the airport - "A two dollar beer and a million dollar view". A great place to eat, the food was delicious and very reasonably priced.

A great hotel that I'd definitely use again.

superb in style and location

from glasgowmk
stayed at the holiday inn surfers from 14th - 20th feb and it was a very pleasant stay at that...from first impressions at reception to the room very impressive... was a nice welcome at front desk for check in given a refurbished room on the 19th floor with views of the beach/ocean it was a side view tho but was clean spacious, comfy beds, very modern compaired to other hotels, large bathroom very clean more than happy with the room...the pool area was large very nice plenty of sun loungers to satisfy although was never really busy on our stay...gym was ok but have seen better maybe that could be improved..also sauna and 2 tennis courts but we didnt use either...surfers beach was only a 2 min walk across the road so that was very handy and you are basically in the mix of all the shopping so everything was very close at hand...never ate in the hotel as we got better value in the nearby restaurants (lovely chinese restaurant directly across from hotel cant remember the name but you have to walk up the stairs to get into it) all in all very impressed and would return

Holiday Inn Unique in style !

from jesspach23
Holiday in is unique, safe and sound. Firstly thought our room at level 19-21 is more than standard and have asked a receptionist whether we'll gonna add more amount out of it but its great ! our room was standard ! My family of three have enjoyed our stay in this hotel including the use of it's swimming pool, gym and even playing tennis too ! Staffs are very handy specially organizing for us our daily travel to the theme parks, etc. Also, it's easy access to the centre especially in the night where lots of surprises you'll see. Sadly, we burnt our skin from sunlight but have recoverd at least at once... Indeed, my family enjoyed our first holiday in Surfers Paradise through this Unique Hotel !!!!!

Great Place to stay

from CoastGirl
We have just returned from a weekend trip to the Gold Coast staying at the Holiday Inn at Surfers Paradise. We were very impressed with the refurbishments made so far. Very modern lobby area and restaurant, the rooms whilst not huge were also beautifully renovated and adequate in size for my husband and 2 children aged 12 and 10. The thing that impressed both of us was the attentiveness of staff. They were genuinely friendly and helpful, and seemed happy to be employed there. The buffet breakfast was more than adequate and the great thing is that kids under 12 eat for free! I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a short stay at the Gold Coast (especially with kids), the position, pool and views were fantastic, however, as they are still renovating, I would make sure to ask for a refurbished room.
Surfers Paradise (whilst having some of the best beaches in the world) on the other hand is in desperate need of a facelift. Unfortunately, it is very run down and I think that there are probably other parts of the Gold Coast that would be better to stay if you were coming from far away and staying for awhile.

Down Market Hotel

from deedee88
We have just come back from a 7 day stay in this hotel. We are a family of 2 adults and 3 children under 14. The hotel itself was fine, although we were on the 22nd floor at first and these were non refurbished rooms. Upon arrival we were given these two rooms even though we had booked, paid for and confirmed 2 interconnecting rooms. The restaurant was fine, we had no complaints with that. If you wish to use the lifts in the hotel, please try to remember to use them prior to the 6 p.m. rush when you cannot manage to get into a lift due to the overseas tourist groups going for their pre arranged dinners. We were most disappointed with the pool area. There were not enough lounges and chairs for the amount of people using the pool. It became obvious that large family groups were 'reserving' all the seating prior to the opening of the pool at 7 a.m. It also became obvious that people were inviting non guests into the area to use the facilities. The pool area needs to be patrolled for this and also for the loutish and drunken behaviour of young individuals. Liquor was served irresponsibly to these people from the pool bar. Their language was disgraceful for a 'family hotel' and also I do not wish to swim in a pool laden with 'bourbon and coke'. The clientele is well below the standard of the facilities offered by the hotel.

renovation is great

from PJ-707
We stayed at the Holiday Inn Surfers Paradise over the christmas period 2006.
The booking was made 8 months in advance using the intercontinental hotels web site requesting a superior room with a pool view.(All superior rooms up to the 18 floor have been renovated).
On check-in there was no record of our request and the room alocated was on the other side of the building overlooking the car park or we were offered an upgrade to a Delux room on the 21st floor overlooking the pool.
We thought it was our lucky day so accepted the upgrade and proceeded to the 21st floor. As soon as we opened the door we were met with a strange smell and when we turned the lights on we were shocked to see a rare example of faded early 80's interior design. The room was clean and the view magnificant but the decor was very tired and the room had a very odd unpleasant smell.
We decided to look at the superior room over looking the car park which was recently refurbished. The room was many times superior to the delux room. The modern theme was clean ,sharp and very masculine but also comfortable.the use of dark greys, browns red and white have totally tansformed the rooms into well above average for the Gold Coast.
The bathrooms remain in almost orginal condition with the addition of a glass shower screen, grey painted walls and a window which looks form the bathroom into the room and visa versa, this window also has a blind for privacy. The bathrooms are still in very good condition.
The lobby is very impressive and modern and I must congradulate the hotel for its refurb which according to reception staff will be completed in 3-4 months(was supposed to be completed dec 2006).
The pool however is a dissapointment. From photos I have seen it looks rather large and well kept, which is not the case. They advertise that they have swimming 3 pools, one is large enough to swim if it is not crowded with children and the others are similiar in size to back yard pools. This area of the hotel has not been renovated and is not only in need of attention but also updating.
I must say though that while we were in Surfers we went down to the Courtyard Marriott and looked at their pool and it is even smaller!
A lot of shops seemed to have closed and remain vacant since my last visit to this area and there didn't seem to be quite the same atmosphere that the area had several years ago.

Top Local Tips for Surfers Paradise

Bar Italia Do not got to this restaurant, it has the worst service and the food isn't much better! The staff have not got a clue nor do the owners. It is in a convenient location but be warned - it's not worth it!

Airport transfers We found for a family of four it cost us only $50 direct ina taxi to Surfers Paradise. It would have cost $45 in the coach shuttle. For an extra $5 we got dropped at the door of our hotel and didn't have to lug our bags or wait for other passengers.

How like indian food There is one Indian Restaurant in the shopping Piazza, which is on the same level where reception desk is, I will defiantly recommend trying their food. My girlfriend never tried Indian food before, but since that restaurant she loves it. We’ve ordered Chicken Korma and Garlic Nan, it was her favourite.
