Great Week End Away

from dsfamily
Check in was quick & easy, our room was not ready so they gave us drink vouchers until it was. There were chocolates and champagne as it was our wedding anniversary. Room was great with excellent views. Restaurant was great for Dinner and Breakfast. Service was also good. Staff were extremely friendly. Would book again. May even take the kids. Didn't ventour to the pool area as it was too cold. Next time. Booked on a last minute Website great price.

Fantastic Service!

from carolynhanlon
We just returned from two nights at this hotel. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. We had a great room on the ocean side, on the top floor, with two queen beds.
We booked through a last minute/deals web site. The deal was an upgrade to the ocean side, free valet parking and welcome drinks.
The hotel is in a great location, very close to the beach and a short walk to the heart of Surfers.
Make sure you visit the Rossini Restaurant at Broadbeach. The food and service are excellent.
We would definately stay there again.

Far better than expected!

from Chris
I stayed at the GCI for a work conference for one week and was not keen to book there after reading all these reviews. People who had stayed there before reassured me it was okay however, so I took my chances and booked. Overall I was very impressed with the hotel. Check in was quick and efficient, location was reasonable - very close to beach with an overpass over the one main road between teh hotel and the beach. Approx 2-3 min walk into town centre which was easily done.
I had a mountain view room and the views were actually reasonably nice with the inland river & mountains in full view. The room itself was fairly modern & clean, only complaint is that the bathrooms do need renovations - they are clean & functional but not 'new' looking. Staff were excellent & the room service menu is fantastic & cheap. Loved having my room service breakfast brought up each morning! I used the valet car parking was very reasonable & good service. The rooms were serviced daily & done very well. You can view your bill on your tv in your room & i had no problems with my account whilst there.
They do check the minibar daily, however do not disturb you if your privacy sign is up which is good.
Overall I would recommend the hotel & enjoyed my stay there.

Poor service

from sequesti
Poor service given to me by reception staff. Complete arrogance and disregard shown as attitude. For a lesser price, with lesser walking distance to the main part of Surfers Paradise, I'd seriously consider alternatives.

This is not to mention that this is supposedly a "4 or 5 star hotel", but being an old hotel it has not been refurbished any recently. Large puddles of water from leaked drains are scattered throughout the carpark as I find my way to the car.

s the Gold Coast ..white pants, gold shoes and tan lines

I stayed for a conference 1 night ocean side on the 7th floor. Personally, I should confess I‘m not a Gold Coast lover but I will try to be as even-handed as I can.

The Hotel is an unremarkable, big hotel. From the point of view of a domestic traveller, as a potential conference site or package holiday
stay the facility carries’s it off very well. The real detail and notable elements of the Hotel is in the bars, eating areas and conference rooms.

Sitting one block back from the beach front it does have ocean views on one side but they are not “uninterrupted views” (and that’s the key question to ask if you really want that feature when planning a trip ). However the hotel is a short walk from all services and the beach.

You can see that the hotel has gone through ongoing refurbishments so from that point of view the room was somewhat clean and comfortable. The most noteworthy positive is that standard room is a very good size, amongst the biggest standard room I have stayed in a hotel of a similar age and style.

If you are travelling on business I can suggest better facilities in that area but ultimately that’s not what people go to the Gold Coast to do!

There are two major restaurants I ate in the western style one, whilst the menu was nothing exciting the food quality and very good.

Enjoyed the hotel loved the location

We stayed at the Gold Coast International for a weekend away, I booked through a "hot deals" type website - we picked it because it was fairly reasonably priced - our stay was great, not far from the beach in Surfers Paradise, we dined in one of the restaurants, Lygon, the food and service was very good. Staff were very good, nothing seemed too much trouble - we would definitly go back - very good location!

t Go!

Worst Hotel Stay Ever.

I have never had so many problems with something in all my life.

The worst thing is that it's not that cheap - I'm sure that you would get better service and less problems at a $5.00 a night backpackers. The list of problems we had were endless and so I won't go into full detail (that would require an essay)... Numerous problems with the bill, housekeeping, reception.

I must have spent 5 hours at reception resolving problems - The Name on the Account was consistently wrong, I paid for a night - they charged it to a different room and then told me that I hadn't paid - I had to dig through our luggage to find the receipt to avoid paying twice! This is one instance out of hundreds.

We upgraded rooms(this took another round at reception, adjusting the bill, correcting our name etc.), went out for a few hours until the new room was ready - got our room keys, went up to our new room, kicked off our shoes and then got a phone call "Sorry that's not your room, you have to go back to your old room, can you please come down to reception and sort this out... I had already spent 45 minutes at reception organising this room, left the hotel for 4 hours so that we could check back in...

They were Unbelievable. Terrible. I filled in a complaint form, the form has a box "Do you require a response?". I ticked yes and haven't heard back from them. Atrocious. 5 stars my a**. The actual hotel was nice, but who cares if they overcharge you, try to kick you out of your room, loose your bags and don't know your name?!

My Advice, Do not go.

Most Horrible Hotel Experience Ever

from manyaman
My stay at this location was a horrible experience. Unfortunately it was the last hotel we stayed in during a long trip around Australia and the second hotel we stayed in at Surfers Paradise.

First of all I booked this hotel over the internet believing I had just booked a 5 star hotel... which is definitely not the case.

Upon check-in, the extremely rude front desk staff charged my credit card an extra $120 IN ADVANCE, just in case I decided to consume the entire contents of the mini-bar (or so they explained). I understand this may be the hotel's policy, however, they did not even bother to ask for my authorisation before doing it. Upon complaining to the manager, he decided to return the money but refused to apologise for the incident.

The weather was cold during my stay at this hotel, the room's air conditioning was broken (could only cool the air and took more than 3 hours to warm up). The bed did not have a doona, bed cover or blanket and only had 2 sets of white cover sheets instead. The closest thing to a warming device was a 30cm wide foot comforter on the bottom part of the bed. Much to our surprise, this foot comforter was REMOVED on the second day of our stay!, in addition to this, the aircon was set to the lowest temperature while we were outside the room.

The balcony was dirty and littered with cigarette butts, the towels smelled, the tv did not have any free cable TV channels, meals were insanely overpriced and to top it all off... management inspected the mini bar every morning at about 9.00am regardless of wether we had a "do not disturb" sign displayed on our door.

Our stay at this place was so miserable that we tried to cancel our stay to go to a different hotel, the manager, "Ken", then stated he would not refund any money and that we would be fully charged for the entirety of our booking!.

Once again... an awful awful experience...

Good value

from traveller59
I guess you get what you pay for, but I found the hotel to be very good value. The rooms are becoming a little dated but are still pleasant with very good balconies and good views.I found the service to be excellent (although the hotel was not fully occupied).Staff were efficient and pleasant. I would stay here again.;

Extremely dissapointing

from Ray Goldberg
This was sold to me as a 5 star hotel. Well, it may have been, 10 years ago. This is no better than a 3.5 star in many aspects. The rooms are old. No wireless internet, very complicated and extremely expensive broadband connection. Breakfast was very poor indeed. Forget service in the restaurant.
The beds were extremely uncomfortable, bathrooms badly in need of renovation, TV channels hopeless.
If you ARE looking for 5 star accomodation- this is NOT where you want to stay.

Top Local Tips for Surfers Paradise

Rossini Restaurant Make sure you visit Rossini Restaurant at Broadbeach. Excellent italian food and service.

Outback Spectacular This is afabulous show that is suitable for most ages and taste. It is well worth the money and the time

Cheap dinner As you can appreciate, everything on the Gold Coast is expensive. Food is no exception. A good meal is at the Clocktower Hotel. There you can get great meals from under $10. Good for a change!
