Historical Traveller Reviews of Brisbane Marriott Hotel

s a Must

from sanddollard
Great Hotel, Fantastic Downtown Location, truly a 5 Star Hotel.
Staff very helpful and accommodating. Nothing is too much trouble.
Lovely Room. Breakfast a little expensive for what it is. Brisbane River located just behind the Hotel. Lovely walk during the day or at night. We really enjoyed our stay there.

I did not have a great stay

This hotel is not in the best location. It is located two blocks back from the Brisbane River, behind a series of tall apartments. On Friday night, the hotel restaurant was crowded and noisey but cold -- there was a seafood buffet. The rooms were small, without much character. Service was friendly.

An average Marriot

from Travelpartner15
This is just an average mid-sized Marriott hotel. There is nothing particularly special about it. It is not in the best location in Brisbane. The rooms are not particularly large. I stayed on a Saturday night, and the restaurant had a seafood buffet. It was full of local people, but there was nothing particularly special about the buffet -- and part of it was outside (with the door to the outside kept open) in winter, making our table (which was in the back of the restaurant inside but near that back door) very cool. The hotel is not on the river, and there is construction nearby -- building a 40 storey apartment complex. I have nothing bad to say about the hotel, but nothing particularly good to say either. Overall, a bland stay.

This property is a great City hotel, immaculately clean and excellent staff and service.

I would recommend this Hotel if you want to be in the City area and like complete comfort with good service.

First rate hotel!

We stayed at the Marriott Brisbane in June 2006. The room was very pretty and clean. The property is within walking distance of the Brisbane River and major shopping malls. The hotel staff was very happy to assist us with our requests. We would recommend the Marriott Brisbane to other travelers.

Excellent in Every Way

from JJW63
I dont agree with the previous review on the Marriott Brisbane. I stayed two nights recently for a business trip and found everything faultless. I think the location is great and does standout especially the River View Rooms and the access across from the main entrance to the river side walkway. The staff at this hotel make it standout as well they were superb at every level from check in to room service and housekeeping. The room service dinner in this hotel was amazing and amazing value. The veal dish was equivalent to any 5 star restaurant I had visited and I have visited lots. After the Sheraton closed in Brisbane I will now call this my Brisbane Hotel as it is so good.

It was OK

from JamesG28
It's not a bad hotel at all - there's really nothing you can fault, but there's really nothing that stands out either.

I stayed here for a week-long business trip in May 2006. The hotel is reasonably well located on the Brisbane river, within a 10-15 minute walk of the CBD, but perhaps not quite as central as the Hilton. There are some apartment buildings between the hotel and the river, so it's not quite riverfront, but my room certainly had a reasonable view.

The hotel is quite new and well fitted out. It is on quite a small block of land, however, so it doesn't have quite the same feeling of space, particularly in the lobby level, that some high-class hotels have. The lifts are agonisingly slow in peak hour.

There was a stain on the carpet in my room but otherwise the place looked generally smart. The rooms are a little on the small side, but there is a good bathroom with separate shower. The bed was very comfortable and the room included all the amenities you might expect, including robes, hairdryer and ironing board. Sound-proofing is not great - my neighbours had a party one evening which was very audible (fortunately they went out about 9pm).

The food is fine without ever being excellent. There is only one restaurant in the hotel which serves international / modern Australian food. Breakfast is a little disappointing and very expensive.

The pool is very nice but very small - too small for laps. The gym is similar: small but OK for a quick work-out. There is an excellent day spa called The Dome. It doesn't look like much but it is probably one of the best in Australia.

Don't expect much if you have the hotel loyalty programme. I am Silver Elite on Marriott Rewards but didn't see a single perk with it.

All in all, the Marriott is a perfectly OK hotel that somehow doesn't quite manage to achieve the spark of magic that might have made it a great hotel. I wouldn't mind staying again, but I'd be tempted to try the refurbished Hilton instead next time.

Beautiful! - Great location!

from Hope2CtheWorld
My husband and I stayed at the Brisbane Mariott Jan 20-27, 2006. It was our first time to Brisbane and I chose the hotel based on what I read on this website. We had a wonderful experience. The hotel is very beautiful, the staff very friendly and the amenities very nice. I arrived a day before my husband and was grateful to be able to check in at 11 am after a 14 hour flight and 3 hours getting through immigration and customs. Our room didn't have an exceptional view but we didn't stay in the room much so it wasn't very important to us. The room was very spacious with a wonderfully comfortable bed that included a featherbed, down comforter and 6 pillows!! The bathroom was beautifully appointed with granite and marble throughout. My only critique here was that there was not a lot of counter space in the bathroom but there was a ledge at one end of the giant tub to place things. I ate lunch in the hotel restaurant upon arrival. It was a little pricey but not unexpected for a hotel restaurant. The hotel restaurant and bar appeared very busy every time we went past. It seemed to be frequented by many locals. It is a quick walk along the river to Eagle Street Pier that has several dining options and you can also catch the city cat or city ferry from this location. There is a wonderful Italian restaurant just out the front door of the hotel and to the right. We ate there twice. The hotel is about 4-6 city blocks to Queen Street Mall but a quick and enjoyable walk. We walked all the way down to South Bank one day and to the Botanic Gardens another. The Concierge desk was incredibly helpful each day with making plans for activities and even the last day making sure we had a taxi to the airport. We went to the pool/spa just once and it was nice. The pool area is not very large but adequate for a nice dip after a day of sightseeing. The Dome Spa looks wonderful and we regret not signing up for a treatment or two while staying. While the hotel is not in the 'heart' of downtown, it's a beautiful hotel and well worth the extra few blocks of walking. I would most definitely stay here again.

On a side note I would strongly recommend a trip to Australia Zoo, a walk through the botanic gardens, a day a Riverlife Adventures (we went abseiling). I chickened out to do the bridge climb but it looks like it would be worth the effort!

gret hotel !

have just spent a week at the brisbane marriott and loved it ! we had a large room with bathroom including separate bath and shower , and as another reviwer put a very comfy bed . despite this hotel being obviously geared towards busness trade the staff were friendly and helpful even opening up the busness centre out of hours so we could use the internet . the hotel is well positioned by the river and just a short stroll down the boardwalk to the eagle street pier and ferry stop , and about 10 mins to queen street mall . the food here both room service and in the resturant is gorgeous , but can add up to be quite expensive if you eat here alot . the hotel has a covered pool on the 4th floor although it has an outdoor terace ( did feel that the people in the offices next door would have a good veiw ! ) over all this a not a cheep hotel , but it is great and i would definatly stay here again .
